Poured into a pint glass
A: Clear filtered amber color with a finger of beige foamy head. Falls somewhat quick and leaves bits of sticky lacing.
S: Sharp pine and citrus hop notes, backed by candy sweet malt. Some spicy pepper and tobacco mixing in with the aromas. Very balanced, but both sides are intensely strong.
T: Malt candy sweetness kicks off with fruity and floral hop flavors rushing in. Very sticky/resinous hop flavors dominate through the middle and finish. Spicy, herbal, piney, fruity.... you name your hop flavor of choice and it's in there. But the malt really holds up to it quite well! The finish is spicy, zesty, and dry.
M: Medium-full body, syrupy, medium carbonation, and dry in the finish.
O: This beer may not be the tastiest imperial IPA I've ever had, but the flavors are super intense. I'm also really amazed at how well the malt holds up to all the hop flavors, as well as how well the two play off each other. Outstanding beer. The best I've had from Avery thus far.

This is a very good beer, but I have had better. Maybe I have held on to this one too long, but it was a bit too malty for my taste. Although the bottle promotes the balance and "control" like a raja of both hops and malts. I feel like the malts are too intense for the beer. Well balanced but for the style I would say medium to high ratings.
Color: Dark bronze, but with some transparency, also a very low amount of head and lacing.
Smell: Not as intense as a West Coast IPA. Maybe that is my favorite style?
Taste: Balanced, I got this one on sale for a super deal so I figured I would try it, but I would not pay what the original price reflected.
Overall: A Solid beer, well balanced, not as much hops going on as I would like but its not a bad beer in any regard. But, to me there are much better in the same price range.
