From BeerAdvocate Magazine Volume II, Issue VI:
Maharaja quickly became classic among the über hopheads. We guess we fall into the group somehow, bring on the hops!
More than ample lacing from this extremely hoppy beer, bright copper hue. Big punget oily hop aroma of tobacco, hemp seeds, grapefruit zest and fresh mint leaves. Big oily smoothness in the medium to full body. Lots of hop flavor on the palate, fresh hop oil, herbs and mint, bitter tobacco, a touch of hemp oil with some earthiness. Maltiness stands strong with spikes of caramel and bready flavors. Alcohol brings some warmth and fruitiness to the table with more of a subtle pear and mango flavor. Hop bitterness is all around and never leaves even far into the bittersweet finish, more of a mellow bitterness that's thick.
American beer at its best here, hopefully it's one more known example where the industry is going and how far it can reach when it comes to the level of flavor. If you are a hophead and have yet to try this beer, what are you waiting for?!!

On tap @ Sunset Grill
Deep orange hue, excellent lacing. Semi-pungent citric oil hop aroma, hints of pineapple & granny smith apple skin as well. Super smooth and creamy viscous mouth feel. Hay like, citric zest, toasted malt, fruit with passion fruit and a fruit punch like flavor. Soft yet muscular bitterness ... lots of hop petal flavor, aka "grassy". Warming alcohol has not problem showing off a bit.
A "kick in the pants Double IPA".

This is a very good beer, but I have had better. Maybe I have held on to this one too long, but it was a bit too malty for my taste. Although the bottle promotes the balance and "control" like a raja of both hops and malts. I feel like the malts are too intense for the beer. Well balanced but for the style I would say medium to high ratings.
Color: Dark bronze, but with some transparency, also a very low amount of head and lacing.
Smell: Not as intense as a West Coast IPA. Maybe that is my favorite style?
Taste: Balanced, I got this one on sale for a super deal so I figured I would try it, but I would not pay what the original price reflected.
Overall: A Solid beer, well balanced, not as much hops going on as I would like but its not a bad beer in any regard. But, to me there are much better in the same price range.
