A: Murky gasoline orange.
S: malty and a spicy hoppy smell
T: a flat smooth dryness overtakes me
M: a tongue tickler with a bitter dry finish.
O: dissappointed. I expected great things from this one but I'm only mildly impressed. It doesn't have the rich full body taste I expected. It still was one the smoothest Imperial IPAs I've had.

Poured from a growler into a tulip
A: Hazy light brown, one-finger head
S: Lots of malt, caramel, toffee followed by grapefruit, pine and tropical fruit underneath. Complex and very pleasant to smell
T: Matches the nose but the hops are more prevalent
M: Full bodied; malty, hoppy, not hot but I can tell the EtOH is there
O: Not the best DIPA I've had but quite tasty and a classic example of the style. I've had this both bottled and on tap and it's far better on tap

Poured from a bomber into a snifter. Off white head, dissipated quickly, nice lacing throughout review. Orange, red, deep amber...not cloudy but "thick".
Hops and sweet caramel on the nose. Molasses, malty...a pleasant mix of all.
First sip...sweet creamy molasses...almost syrupy...light carbonation and a nice full mouthfeel...followed by coriander, lemon, and caramel. Fresh green grass, herbal raw turnip...dry, peppery, somewhat earthy dirt on the finish. It becomes quite pungent on the tongue. It's a bitter finish that lingers, the alcohol comes out in the end, warm and biting...the sweetness takes a back seat to the bitter finish but hangs just enough to remember the great beginning.
This is a very good Imperial IPA...I love the beginning of it...sweet and chewy, caramel and molasses, coriander and lemon...however the finish is a bit dry and bitter for my liking?
I think if I was going to buy an Imperial I'd stick with Deschutes Hop Henge (a personal favorite)..or to keep it inexpensive and have a bottle or two a night I'd just stick with SN Torpedo...a little less alcohol and much more smooth and balanced for my taste. I would not pass up if offered but probably wont buy again for some time.
Update - After letting the Ale warm some I've noticed the bitterness has either mild some or I have grown use to it...the finish is much sweeter now...a hour into my first glass and I'm almost finished. I'd say let this puppy warm a little and you're going to have a much more enjoyable experience...cheers!
