Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: BeerAdvocate on 03-03-2005

Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, meaning “great”, and rajan, meaning “king”. Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley – fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. Welcome to his kingdom!

The Maharaja is the second installment in our Dictator Series.

Pours a beautiful orange-amber color with a thick white head that sticks to the glass the whole way.

Smells like big hops, oranges and grapefruit, with a hint of bready malt undertones.

Tastes of bold earthy hops, big flavor up front. The finish is malty, balanced by the aformentioned hops throughout the flavor.

Feels thick and slightly viscous, with lots of alcohol.

Overall, a giant beer, great hops and good balance. There is flavor present in all aspects and it has an intoxicating aroma. If you like huge beers, this is a great example.

had this from bomber. Poured into a pint glass with a solid/dark orange color and a 1" head.

Big and pungent aromatics with loads of navel oranges, lots of creams, citrus', and hops. Very layered and not overbearing on the hops

Full bodied with a real rich and creamy feel. There is a layering effect as well with flavors of creams, navel oranges and hops

This is a big beer, but it isn't over the top at all. I was expecting some alcohol but it never really showed up. Certainly not something to have all the time, but was really good while it lasted
