Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: BeerAdvocate on 03-03-2005

Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, meaning “great”, and rajan, meaning “king”. Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley – fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. Welcome to his kingdom!

The Maharaja is the second installment in our Dictator Series.

Produced a finger and a half of off white head. Beer color is a medium orangy gold. Non-translucent. Good lacing.

The smell is of caramel, citrus, and biscuit. Very nice aroma.

The taste was similar, but with a little pine hop flavor. Medium-heavy mouth-feel, sweet/sticky, and medium carbonation.

This beer is awesome! At 102 IBU's I would have thought their would be more bitterness, but it is supremely balanced.

Bottle poured into a tulip glass. Beer pours a mostly clear copper color with a finger of soft off white foamy head. Head sticks around for a bit, leaving a good amount of lacing.

Nose is grapefruit, papaya, pine, caramel, and a bit of boozy alcohol. Good amount of yeast esters, fruity and mildly spicy.

Grapefruit and pine hops mainly, with sweet yeast ester red apple and sweet alcohol flavor. Dry finish with a earthy pine bitterness lingering.

Medium to full body with mild carbonation. A touch of alcohol warmth in the back of the throat but mostly easy to drink.
