12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip.

A- Dark amber. Head is a yellowish off white. One finger. Lacing is quite there.

S- Bright fruit. Apricot, and almost some apple esters. Very slight Belgian spice. Hops aren't very detectable, and the malt is a very light toast.

T- Fruity again. Very mild flavor. Belgian spice is light again.

M- Light body. Sweet feel and finish is rather sweet and wet. There is just the slightest spicy dryness.

O- This one isn't so impressive. Pretty fruity, and there isn't a lot of that great Belgian yeast spicy trait.

Bottle dated April 2014 (14127 Julian):
O: this beer isn't too bad, but it doesn't seem to fit the style to me. It's more of a dubbel or Scotch Ale, given the plum and dark fruit-like notes. It also reminds me a bit more of some English style beers with a hint of what I perceive as copper.

A: pale ale orange side of golden. Head seems to last in this pour.
S: this is where I get British pale ale / bitter notes. I get hints of caramel and plum.
T/M: mentioned above, a nice light Belgian darkish beer, but it's not listed as such and isn't that dark. The carbonation is a bit light also. The flavors are brown sugar, plum, a touch of fig, perhaps, and not much bitterness that I expect in a pale ale, Belgian or otherwise.

If I were to rate this outside of style, I might rate it almost a half a point higher.

Not a lot of people apparently like this one, given the reviews, but I'm not sure why. It's a seasonal that tends to be available for a good part of the year, and I can usually find it if I'm looking for it. This is a Belgian-style pale, which I guess confuses some people, and it's not a common style, so maybe that's the issue. But whatever, it's a good mild pale, perfect for warm spring or fall days. Give this one a try.
