Appearance: Jet black, nearly opaque brew with dense head of foam. About as stout as stout gets, I should think
Smell: Something astringent, chemical, with undertones of smoke, malt, coffee grounds, and anise.
Taste: Holy crap, the alcohol hits like a sledgehammer as soon as you pause to breathe! Once the shock dies off, flavors of coffee, smoke, meat, dark spices. Not for the faint of heart. Aftertaste is bitter and sharp.
Mouthfeel: Not terribly viscous, but definitely feels like motoroil. Scouring effect on the tongue, the aftertaste lingers a bit too long for my taste.
Drinkability: I wonder if they didn't jack up the alcohol as a selling point only. It doesn't seem to contribute to the brew's complexity or appeal, beyond shocking the imbiber. Personally I prefer Stone's Imperial Stout to this, primarily because I find it more enjoyable going down than this. This is interesting, a good beer to pair with strong cheese or pate or beef, but I doubt I'd drink it on its own.
