Poured from 12oz bottle.
Appearance-pours a rich silky black with zero highlights, about a finger and a half of brown head rises like creme.
Aroma-There's barely any alcohol on the nose which is downright incredible given the ABV. The first scent that assails the senses is that of darkly roasted malts which convey a coffee-chocolate type aroma, some molasses follow with some hints of very dark fruit.
Taste-There's a definite chocolaty liqueur quality to the taste but it's accompanied by rich flavors of molasses, dark roasted malts and syrupy dates. It's boozy but the alcohol is by no means 'hot', it's rather subdued actually and mingles with the other flavors pleasantly.
Mouthfeel-Rather thinner than I was expecting but still big, chewy and rich with some nice, slightly stingy carbonation which actually helps more so than detracts.
Drinkability-About an hour of sipping later and I've polished off the bottle; easier drinking than other beers I've had at this ABV.
