12oz bottle, batch 4, bottled Nov 2008. Enjoyed at about 2 1/2 years old. Served at cellar temperature. Big long-time want of mine, glad to finally crack one open!
Pours black with a one finger brown head that is very active and dissipates quickly. Doesn’t leave much lacing at all and holds a ring and wispy cap.
Aroma is literally a punch in the nose. First whiff knocks my head back, "wow!". There is a lot of alcohol in the aroma as well as semi-sweet chocolate chips, strong dark fruits including raisins, figs, cherries, plums and dates, some anise, some coffee, some more chocolate and another hefty dose of booze. An aroma so powerful it’ll singe your nose hairs!
Flavor is dark fruits such as black currants, raisins, cherries, plums, figs, dates, etc, also some chocolate, coffee, dark roasted malts, caramel and anise. Oh...and the heat! Even after 2.5 years this is still very hot...couldn’t imagine how this must be fresh and frankly I don’t want to know! While I may seem to be harping on the alcohol, I fully expected it going in being this is 16% ABV, although hoped for a little less since this has had some time to mellow.
Mouthfeel is full, creamy, but with some bite on the finish.
A monstrous beer, no doubt. I need to pick up a couple of more to forget about for another 2 1/2 years, if not longer. One to sip, savor, and most importantly, cellar.

Appearance is a deep dark brown with a finger of tan head that enjoyed some good retention and left nice thick lace behind. Roasted malts abound in both the nose and the flavor profile. The finish is a touch too astringent and puts a damper on an otherwise exceptional offering. There is a slight alcohol presence, but considering the ABV, it is very mild and unobtrusive.

12oz 2011 vintage into a snifter.
dark, thick black pour with a slight beige head. smell is actually quite subdued..slight sweetness perhaps. the taste starts out a tad sweet...and is incredibly smooth. this is almost like a cross between a stout and barleywine. ABV not really apparent either. but you feel it quick. very malty on the finish. dark fruits...big big beer. full bodied. mild carbonation.
overall an interesting and very tasty hybrid beer.
