I enjoyed this beer from the comfort of my own living room. From the 12oz bottle from November 2007, Batch 3 to a snifter glass. A great gift for Christmas from my brother.
Appearance: Pours pitch black with a small brown head that sticks around for a little bit, but not very long.
Smell: A lot going on here and all if it good! I wish I was smart enough to identify everything, because I like all of it. The alcohol is there, but not dominant. Sweet chocolate, coffee and fruit dominate.
Taste: Again, a lot going on here, but I love it all. Sweet chocolate, coffee and fruit are the main flavors I can recognize, but it all blends together so nicely. The alcohol is there, but not any more than all of the other flavors balanced here.
Mouthfeel: Full-bodied and smooth. A real tongue coater in a great way. Decent carbonation.
Drinkability: I can't say enough about this beer. I highly recommend this beer and will try to find as many of this batch as I possibly can. Very interested in trying the newer vintages, but I think it would turn out to be like an over-hyped movie that fails only because of the hype surrounding it. One of the best beers I can remember ever having.

Appearance is a deep dark brown with a finger of tan head that enjoyed some good retention and left nice thick lace behind. Roasted malts abound in both the nose and the flavor profile. The finish is a touch too astringent and puts a damper on an otherwise exceptional offering. There is a slight alcohol presence, but considering the ABV, it is very mild and unobtrusive.

12oz 2011 vintage into a snifter.
dark, thick black pour with a slight beige head. smell is actually quite subdued..slight sweetness perhaps. the taste starts out a tad sweet...and is incredibly smooth. this is almost like a cross between a stout and barleywine. ABV not really apparent either. but you feel it quick. very malty on the finish. dark fruits...big big beer. full bodied. mild carbonation.
overall an interesting and very tasty hybrid beer.
