Pours a pretty dark, almost opaque brown, with a short khaki head on it. Head dwindles away pretty quickly into a film of fine bubbles. Nose has some cocoa and coffee notes, with a sweetness to it. Flavor is nice up front but fizzles out a bit on the back end, lacking the structure a higher abv beer might have, but I think they've done well with the 5.5. Hop bitters are moderately detectable but the malt takes the upper hand for the most part, as you would expect in an American brown. There's also a sort of faint vanilla characteristic that I'm not sure where it's originating from, but it's a nice feature. Mouthfeel is nice but I find myself wanting something thicker.
Overall, good to very good. I do prefer a stronger brown ale but for the style I think this has been very well done.

Pour from can purchased at Distellers Outlet in Poway CA. Dark brown with a big off white head. Nice lacing. Smell is incredible. Vanilla, brown sugar, honey. Taste is very pleasent. Malts and a nutty tinge with hints of vanilla, defintley getting some chocolate too but its very faint. I purchased just one can, next time I'll get a sixer of this, really enjoyable.

A- dark brown with Carmel edges. Two finger head which dies down but retains a little. Slight lacing
S- subdued roasted barley, toast, a little fresh black coffee, light hops. Rather inviting.
T- Roast barley, sweet malt, light caramel, herbal hops creep in, which is slightly off putting. Long bready finish.
M-Full bodied and not too effervescent. Really really nice.
O- Solid American brown ale. Not cloying. Very pleasant on a chilly evening.
