-Malts: Crystal and Chocolate as specialty malts
-Hops: Bullion, Cascade, Fuggles
Ellies Brown Ale is one of the more English Brown Ales out there, IMO, even with the use of Bullions and Cascades. The clear, deep ruby body is topped by a thin, almost splotchy head of beige, lacing head. The aroma of sweet, chocolate and crystal malts mingle with the coolness of American hops and the Fuggles. Between the chocolate malts and the Fuggles, the medium body is very earthy, after the initial sweetness. Then an almost piney coolness almost mitigates the maltiness. The two opposing flavors linger momentarily in equilibrium, but the earthy maltiness wins out and the beer sours ever so slightly in the finish due to the imbalance and the resulting, left-over sugar. A solid offering, but by Avery standards, this ones a bit weak and uninteresting

Pours a dark brown with hints of ruby when held to the light (looks nearly black in the glass) with a nice creamy two fingers of head that settles rockily to a healthy film and then a light film. Decent retention; some spotted lacing.
Really 'brown'-smelling with some yeasty phenols. Caramel malt aromas with chocolate some brown sugar and a tiny bit of raisin.
Smooth, chocolatey and delicious. Really rich nut and toffee flavors hit you right off the bat, with walnut, cocoa powder, dark bread and other nutty, chocolatey, bready flavors as well!
Medium bodied and extremely drinkable. There is a short finish, a nice creamy texture and good carbonation (honestly I would prefer it with a little less of the latter and more of the former).
Very good beer.
This is a smooth, easy drinking brown ale that has got it all where it counts. Pretty nice looking with lots of great nose to it and a mellow, nutty, chocolate-dipped flavor. Much better than I was expecting.
Would have again; well worth trying.

Pour from can purchased at Distellers Outlet in Poway CA. Dark brown with a big off white head. Nice lacing. Smell is incredible. Vanilla, brown sugar, honey. Taste is very pleasent. Malts and a nutty tinge with hints of vanilla, defintley getting some chocolate too but its very faint. I purchased just one can, next time I'll get a sixer of this, really enjoyable.
