Thanks to chonyr for bringing this one north.

A very nice looking brown ale. Clear brown and mildly carbonated, with mahogany highlights. A decent 2 finger light tan head formed on the pour, and its doing its best to stick around. Nicely laced with thick sheets that break down to produce thinner webs of lacings.

A nice smelling brown as well. Toffee, and the metallic twang helps bring out a nutty bitterness similar to black walnut. A mildly floral and very earthy hoppiness with hints of wood round out the nose.

Toffee with hints of demerara and treacle. A milder nuttiness comes forth than hinted at in the nose. The hints of demerara and treacle give way to hint of roastiness and the earthy hop bitterness with its slighter woody nuances.

Somewhere between light and medium bodied. Very nicely balanced with the malt and hops. Smooth and slightly creamy, but finishes slightly dry, with a very mild astringency that plays well with its earthy and mild woody character.

It all adds up to a drinkable, refreshing brown ale that is quite nice in all compartments. Its good taste and refreshing quality make for a sessionable brown ale. Another solid brew from Avery, and one I will gladly revisit some other time.

It comes in a dark brown color, almost like a porter.

The aroma has mocha, lightly roasted coffee, heavily toasted bread, a caramel sweetness, lots of hazelnut.

The flavor follows with that hazelnut flavor, lightly roasted watery black coffee, a cocoa flavor, and then onto a lightly herbal finish. The beer robust characteristic almost similar to a really light porter.

Just an absolutely forgotten gem in the style.
