Poured from the bottle into a snifter glass. Vintage 2013 more than likely.

Comes out with a classic caramel brown in the bottle, filling the body with a much darker almost garnet deep red color. Head is a creamy colored vanilla with a hint of faint mocha brown in it. Settles slowly with a good thick collar of creamed bubbles, almost flat whip cream consistency. Lipped up leopard and patchy linked lacing on the glass too.

Light nose. Hints of cherry like fruit but with a lighter quality. Nutmeg and clove spice with a mellow fruit quality of dark plum taking over. Hints a little wet and juiced sour cherry. Some weed and woody like hop faded quality. Quite nice and interesting.

Palate comes real nicely. Good mellow sweetness of cinnamon and spiced warmth. Really seems like a classic winter warmer flavor. Cherry sweetness a bit with a lighter hint of darker fruit without strong raisin character, that plum just keeps jumping in my head. Good warmth and finish of dry nutmeg and spiced clove hinted on the nose, warm hard caramel.

It comes off like a stock winter warmer barleywine, and love the classic integrated winter warmer sensing flavors and character. Somewhere in between, real memorable and nice. Great to go back to these old classics.

12 ounce bottle, a friend gave a bottle of this to me a month or so ago so I assume it's from this past winter's batch. Served in a DFH Signature glass, the beer pours a murky brown color with about an inch off-white head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. Aroma is nice and malty, the brew smells like caramel, toffee, nuts, and some chocolate. I think the taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there's also some dark fruit, brown sugar and dark bread flavors noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit coating and smooth with moderate carbonation. I liked this, it's good on a summer day and would probably be good on a winter's day too!
