A - Pours dark with a strong foamy head. Nice.
S - BIG Belgian Strong Dark smell wafts around as soon as I crack the bottle. Oh yeah. This baby's got something. Alcoholic spicy sweetness, raisins, prunes, along with something I can only describe as a little funky and smoky.
T - I just had the Avery Salvation yesterday, so I wanted to try this while the memory was fresh. I've never had the Russian River Salvation, but it is obviously the dominant beer here, as I only taste shades of Avery's lighter Salvation. What does it taste like? The alcohol is quite aggressive, as are the hops for this style - the other BSDs I've had seem to be sweeter than this and less hoppy. Hops stick in the back of the throat, oh yeah. I'm getting some definite smoky flavor as well, and only a kind of burnt sugar with raisin taste as far as the residual sweetness. Complex and challenging. Not at all for the uninitiated, but this should be right up the alley of most BA's. I really can't imagine too many of you guys not enjoying this; this is good stuff.
M - An oddly thin mouthfeel for the big flavor here. Not at all cloying, though a tad sticky, and feels pretty dry.
D - Pretty good for such a big, big beer in the context of the bomber being easy to drink. Beyond that, I'd say it's one and done. This flavor is going to be with you for a while even after you're done..the palate-blasting this does will not let you move on to another beer, even if you can handle the 9% ABV
All in all, an enjoyable, leftfield BSDA - I wish we'd see more collaborations of this type. Big high five to Avery and Russian River for this.

Collaboration not litigation batch #7
Enjoyed this in a delirium tulip glass
Poured a soft off white 1 finger head which quickly dissipates and is deep mahogany in color
Upfront this beer has a sweet toffee/caramel malt flavor with some dark fruit and little hop presence. Finishes strong with med-high carbonation and extremely pleasant alcohol warmth.
Closest thing we can get to russian river on the east coast and it doesn't disappoint!
