Appearance - Beautiful orange/amber. nice level of floaties (which i like). Head is lush and lumpy
Smell - lush caramel sweetness combined with a slight whiff of piney hop. More malty on the nose than hoppy.
Taste - nice malty note on the front end (though a bit cloying, with a earthy and piney hop middle(not so much citrus) - possibly a slight passion fruity note. Finish is moderately bitter but not extreme (like i like in an ipa) but is quite long with a lingering but restrained hop taste and mild sweetness.
Mouthfeel - Came across as just a tad cloying. needs to be drier on the front end with a little more hop aroma/bitterness to balance it out. Possibly a lower mash temp would help that out.
Drinkability - average. it comes across as a tad sweet and I wouldn't want more than one.
Conclusion - its bigger brother (the Maharaja) is much much better. It just seems to lack the extreme juicy hoppy character and it is a bit cloying on the front end. Its enjoyable but not mind blowing. Enjoyed the piney notes but every time I get this beer I'm left slightly wanting more.
