My tulip glass fills with a big, tight, off-white 3" head that leaves tons of lace in patches and rings. Below is a clear bright dark copper beer that is eventually revealed from above, though the head remains as a pillow.
Strong ripe pineapple delights the nose, with a background of caramel. This is a good example of simplicity standing out.
The bitterness is off balance and caries well into the finish. High acidity is also a primary characteristic. Where the aroma is a fine example of simplicity, the flavors are less fall short of that accolade. Still this is a fine beer.
With a full body ,strong alcohol, and astringent quality, one hopes for only to be denied some relief from the carbonation which is soft at best.
DuganA is a fine one-off beer, but seems to be going for bitterness and palate throttling from the hops, rather than the flavors. In fairness, the aroma is quite good. Ultimately this beer will be great for people who prefer to beat the drum with a sledge hammer, it makes a good loud noise.
