Pours black with a good tan head. Aroma of chocolate and toffee, with some caramel and malt. Taste is interesting. Loads of coffee and chocolate, but the hops give the finish an earthy, almost peaty character. Kind of like someone dropped a shot of Islay scotch into the keg. Creamy mouthfeel makes this a nice little beer and pushes it up a few notches.

Is this for real? I haven't done a review of this beer i first started banging in the late 90s? Ok. So Avery is/was (I dunno Crooked Stave puts out some bangers nowadays) my favorite Colorado brewery, almost always good, cross section of styles, usually good quality and affordability.

This pours dark brown. Hits a 4/5" beige head, great retention. This is the porter appearance you were looking for. The aroma is entirely roasted malt and bittering hops. Just straight up "new world" porter territory.

Taste imparts roasted two row barley, light chocolate malt notes, light coffee from all that roasted malt notes. Runs around 55 ibu I would guess, bittering hops firm, yet not oppressive or dominating. This is like one of those super consistent and prototypical kind of new world/American porter recipes, tried and true. Its totally out of style in this era of dumping candy and shit into a dark beer where you sludge it up into Chicago pour territory. But if you want a great, traditional, no frills beer to bang yourself at 6/$10, you got yourself a deal right here.
