look: 4.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 3 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.5

Appearance= pours close to black with nice garnet highlights through the light. A two finger fluffy tan head, looks like its fading fast into alot smaller.

Aroma= floral rose like hop notes on top of a rather stale smelling malt character. Some chocolate, maybe some biscuit aromas as well

Flavor= chocolate some roasty grain character but not much.

M/D = mouthfeel is nice and creamy. Drys out quickly not leaving you with much at all. I may have had this a little too cool, but I did not enjoy this near as much as I remember.

Pours a deep brown/black with a lingering tan head.

Aroma is catty, resiny, and roasty, with a touch of citrus hop character adding complexity. A hint of chocolate surfaces late.

Flavor reveals overwhelming roast malt, finishing charred and bitter. Catty hops counter a resiny, grassy, citrus base. The balance is roast bitterness and hops.

Body is moderate to a touch light, with moderate carbonation and a slightly astringent finish.

Roast malt dominates, and chocolate is not as prevalent as I'd prefer. Hops clash a bit with the roastiness. Not my cup of tea. Much more of a black ipa than a porter. The char really killed it.

12 oz bottle.

A - Poured into a tulip glass, a dark brownish black with a thin hanging lace.

S - Funk, chocolate, citrus, smoke

T - Nuts, chocolate, smoke, hop bitterness on the finish.

M - Somewhat thin. Viscous.

O - I understand they are trying to stretch boundries, which I respect. The finish and aftertaste is slightly off, but with time I may appreciate it. Draw your own conclusions on this one.

Sampled at Avery's tap room while attending the BA social held there 04/19/14.

Deep brown body with a thin, persistent head. Smell consists of dark roasted grains with cocoa and vanilla. The taste mirrors the aroma. Medium bodied; smooth mouthfeel.

A very respectable porter that isn't overly rich in flavor or feel yet is entirely tasty and drinkable. Satisfying.

Pours opaque very dark brown. The 1/2 inch off-white head quickly fades to a thin film and a ring on top that leaves strands of lace.

The aroma is dominated by grapefruit and faint pine.

The flavor is mostly bitter hops and assorted citrus fruit (mostly grapefruit).

The texture is medium bodied with medium carbonation.

This beer is suffering from a major identity crisis. It is classified here as an American black ale, the name implies that it is a porter and the label describes it as a black IPA. Whatever it is, it is a only a decent one.

This porter had a great appearance when poured. It was a little more carbonated than I preferred.

We could definitely tell the difference of the dry-hopping process. This tasted bitter and very citrusy. Reminiscent of crossing a Shock-top with a porter look.

Not my style, as it claimed to have sweet caramel and chocolate characteristics. All I could taste was citrus and hops.

Will not buy this again.
