Pours opaque dark brown. Tan thick, root beer float like head.
Sugar smells with earthy hops aromas. Toffee and caramel and a bit of touch of pine.
Sweet on the palate. Pleasant earthy hops on the end and wonderfully balanced. Faint notes of cocoa. This bad boy is 8.69% and I'm having no problem drinking it. Not nearly as heavy as one would think when looking at the pour. Carbonation is great.

Bottle kept at room temperature since 2010 (sampled 2019).
Appearance: Black body, bright back light shows clear brown edges, but doesn't penetrate the glass. Thin tan head forms a near cover and halo, with some spotty lace.
Aroma: Earthy hop, slight sour note, floral, honeysuckle, purple grape esters.
Taste: Soft body finishes with a firm bitter note. Some mild roasted grain, some schwarzbier character, but on steroids. It's a big beer that's smooth and gentle, just a slow warmth in the finish to let you know it hits big.
Mouthfeel: Low carbonation, almost still, medium heavy body, slick texture, oily finish.
Overall: Another unique and interesting beer from my cellar experiments. This doesn't show any ill effects of age, and the hop flavor is still present in the bitter finish, impressive for almost a decade in mellowing. Enjoying it very much, hope Avery puts out something similar again.

Big black and brown pour yield a 1" + head of tan. Lacing was superb. Aroma gave off more dark fruit bitterness than roast or dry hopping.
Taste imparted caramel sweetness, some minorly roasted chococlate malt, didn't hit those bitter notes I was expecting. Hides alcohol well.
For being advertised as a dry hopped beer and whatnot, I was underwhelmed, but yet impressed at its body and ability to not be oppressive with the alcohol.
