We wondered what would happen if a monstrous pumpkin ale, plump full of spicy gourdiness, were aged in fine fresh rum barrels to add suggestions of delicate oak and candied molasses. Rumpkin is what happened! This first member of the Annual Barrel-Aged Series was brewed with roasted pumpkins from a local Boulder County farm, and spiced with nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter at room temperature. Bottled on date is 09/22/14.

A- Pours a fairly clear ruby/ dark orange color with a small amount of off-white head which quickly fades. Lots of lacing along the sides too.

S- Smells of spices, cinnamon and pumpkin. The alcohol heat is there a bit on the nose as well but the spices mask most everything else.

T- Holy heat. Starts off sweet with notes of dark fruit and the above mentioned pumkins and spices. Then the heat takes over from the rum barrels and overwhelms everything else.

M- Medium to heavy bodied, low carbonation, very hot (expected.) Each sip leaves a warming alcohol feeling.

Not bad, but I kind of wish I sat on the bottle bottle I got to let the heat subside.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter.

Gorgeous amber color. Small off-white head which doesn't last long, decent lacing.

Smells of spices rather than pumpkin. The alcohol and rum was huge on the nose as well as sweetness, caramel and even a little banana for me.

Taste of booze and overpowering sweetness, some nice dark fruit and lovely rum flavors. Doesn't hide the high ABV at all.

Medium bodied, with low carbonation. The alcohol warms with each sip.

Got better the more I drank and was a very nice sipper on a cool night. Overall though too boozy for me, may mellow with some age?

Orange-gold, amber - decently clear, minimal white head.

Very pumpkin pie/fall aroma with a substatial punch of boozy rum sweetness. Graham cracker, nutmeg, cinnamon, pumpkin and barrel.

Tastes very young and boozy, hides some of the rich spice on the nose. In-balance boozy sweetness, nice barrel and strong rum but very very sweet

Very smooth mouthfeel that is not too syrupy.

Not a big pumpkin beer fan but this is very good. Crazy sweet, though. Really want to try the porter bourbon version.
