Enjoyed at the Avery taproom.

A: pours out a dark coppery brown. Looks dark brown until you hold it to light. Tan head that faded quickly.

S: I get a lot of chocolate. There is some smokiness in there as well as some rye spiciness. There are hints of toffee and roasted malt and coffee. Aroma has a little sweetness to it.

T: a lot like the aroma. Chocolate, smoke, caramel malt. Finishes bitter like dark chocolate and with a little spice from the rye.

M: i really like the feel of this beer. It has a medium thickness.

D: really good beer. I would drink this again.

On tap at Avery.

Pours a dark brown with red tones and a short tan head.

Nose is pleasant chocolate sweet coffee with some rye undertones which are pleasant and assertive. (I'm a bit prejudiced since I like rye character very much)

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and nicely balanced.

Flavor profile is all chocolate and coffee character with, again, nice rye tones.

Finish is a nice bitter black chocolate/coffee with the ever present rye, this time it finishes with a nice bitter rye bread character.

A very nice rye beer. I am a fan of rye beers so I am a bit biased, but this one for being so light especially has a lot going on. Many sweet flavors which I don't remember since I never take notes. The rye is nicely noted, and for me it could be a bit stronger, but I enjoyed it the way it is. Try it out definitely.

On tap at the Avery tasting room. Chocolate aroma, dark chocolate body, chocolate malt. Minimal head but lacey. 60% rye. The rye taste is basically in the finish.I was not getting smoke although a little roast. So a different take on a rye beer, and nice.

Had this one on tap at Avery this morning. According to the beer menu, this one was brewed with a homebrewer (Jerry, I assume?) for the GABF pro-am. Brewed with 60% rye. Poured a clear dark reddish-brown with a smallish beige head. Lightly spicy on the nose, woody with notes of toffee and toasted malt. On the palate, medium bodied, average carbonation, with spicy, toasted malt, caramel and oatmeal-raisin cookies. Drinkable, the glass went down quickly.
