Couldn't resist and cracked a bottle from the cellar, after only a couple weeks, lol. I have heard great things so figured I'd try one. Poured from bottle to a NBB globe the beer pours a deep rich opaque black, thick, 1 finger head with solid retention and some lacing. Looks good. The aroma is rich and complex with roasted malts, oak, chocolate, and an alcohol warmth. The flavor builds from the nose with a rich flavor. Begins with a strong coffee and chocolate flavor up front. The roast enters and blends well providing a nice base layer. Hints of dark fruit, oak, and bourbon as well. Very good. Extremely smooth and hides the high abv very well. Finishes creamy with a lingering chocolate roast on the tongue. Very very good. Full bodied and well carbonated. Overall, this beer is fantastic. I can't wait to see how it ages. Highly recommended.

Bottle to Avery Snifter
App- This right out of the gate was one of the more dense and black stouts I have seen. A lush pour with a creamy look behind it with a dark brown head that was a bit ringed. The edges were dark brown and the inside was a lighter tan.
Smell- This had a lot going on in the nose. A big chocolate bomb with a good amount of oak, vanilla and some oats with a big amount of whispy booze.
Taste- A very sweet drinking stout. A big amount of molasses and bourbon with some sweeter vanilla on the first sip. To me this was a bigger and sweeter version of Mephistopheles. This was a bit one dimensional to me and over the top with booze vs. layered.
Mouth- A good medium body. A bit thin for the ABV and size of this beer. A fairly creamy almost thin medium carbonation. A good amount of sweet dark fruits remain on the finish.
Drink- Good beer, wanted and expected more of this one. As I mentioned. A bit one dimensional with more bourbon and molasses vs a backing flavor.
