From a 12 oz bottle into a tulip. Notes from October 29 and November 14.
A-The brew was murky brown with black cherry colors if you held it up to the light. Very little head, even with a mildly excited pour. My notes say, "Meh."
S-The smell is quite sour and slightly lactic (little lambic style, actually), with sour cherries and raspberries being very prevalent. Also a hint of sour white grape. A little vinous. There is an underlying note of sugar and warm, oaky funk.
T-This thing was sour! I had two bottles (on different nights) and the second one still makes me salivate, but in a good way. I got the same tart cherry and raspberry on the tongue that I got on the nose, but also a slightly funky (again, lambic-like) malty weirdness that makes for an interesting brew. The finish is long (very long) and deliciously tart with sour fruits that go on and on.
M-The feel is not as slick as some wilds/oud bruin styles and the beer has a heavier hit of carbonation than many sour beers. I thought the carb added a nice kick to keep things from turning cloying.
O-I enjoyed this thing. It was one of the more mouth-puckering experiences I have had with a beer, but I felt like things gelled pretty well. I'm not sure if my score will reflect it (because of the somewhat unexciting appearance), but I would put this one small notch above Oud Floris if I were forced to do an Avery side-by-side.

WTF is this rating system? I want to write a full review. Anywho, pours a mahogany with more red than typically seen. Fair lacing and great legs. Aroma is tart raspberry, lightly earthy-woody with some grassy-floral as well. Taste is mostly the berry, with some of the musty yeast character and rich earth from the cab sauv. High carbonation but a bit lack luster on the tongue in terms of body, and I like a higher carb bite in sours. Very good beer though.

Authentic raspberry, wild yeast, and wine aromas. Some retained head and lace trail. Fuller mouthfeel. Citrus, tad of funk,wood,cherry, complex notes. A great really tart beer that satisfies, courtesy of Jason Bach.Not for everyday but great for sour fans.

Pours a thick light cream colored ring. Beer is a clear dark ruby. Lacing is stringy, patchy, and spotty with decent stick. Nice looking beer.
Nose is raspberry, oak, and a light funkiness. Fruity, sweet and tart overtones. Fresh, clean and appetizing.
Opens acidic, juicy, tart raspberry. Seedy and puckering-ly sour in the middle with notes of Brett funk and oak in the middle. End is more raspberry tartness. Same finish. Pretty one dimensional but enjoyable nonetheless.
Light to medium bodied with ample carbonation. Prickly, slick, and oily in the mouth and aggressive and foamy going down. Puckering finish with a lingering aftertaste. Nice.
Avery's Barrel Aged series has been pretty hit or miss but this is clearly a solid offering. Again, pretty one dimensional but the fruit is very present and the flavor is assertive yet clean and enjoyable. Worth trying.

12 oz. bottle poured into a mini snifter.
Appearance - Deep red, almost brown. Seems clear, aside from the color. No head.
Smell - Acidic. Seems like it's going to be really acetic, but it turns more toward the cabernet. Fruity, but I wouldn't call it distinctly raspberry.
Taste - Dark fruits up front. Sharp sourness, never too acetic, but that's again what it seems like it will be. Apple when it's cold, more toward cherry as it warms. Wine barrel comes through in the back end with a hefty malt presence in the middle. Oaky in the finish.
Mouthfeel - Medium body. Medium carbonation. I kept expecting this to get really sour, but it didn't ever quite get there.
Overall - Not sure where the raspberries are, but this is good. The wine barrel really brings this together.

Had during Brewvival 2013! Served from bottle into a Brewvival sampler shaker. Poured a deep amber with a half finger off-white head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, raspberry, wood, fruit, brett, and subtle acetic acid. The flavor was of sweet malt, tart raspberry, tart, subtle funk, wood, and a kiss of vinegar. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. The barrel definitely did nice things for this brew as well as the raspberries that were added. They both shined through in all aspects of this one. I wish there would have been a little more sour going on in this one to take it to the next level. A really well done brew that everyone should try at least once.
