22 oz. bomber poured into the larger version of the Sam Adams Perfect Pint Glass. Liquid portion comes out a nice golden orange color. Glows a little brighter when held up to the light and there's perfect clarity, no haze or particles at all. Nice big off white to tangerine colored head that has some great lacing and glass retention.
The smell is good, bread, sweet, as well as a lot of tropical fruit aromas. Hops very present more pine than citrus and slightly earthy/grassy/floral. Sweeter than most Double IPAs I've had.
Taste is a slight step up from the smell, both still good. Nice malty sweetness, pale and caramel, very bready. Pinnaple, tangerine, mango ,plenty of citrus; then goes a little more earthy with some leafy pine resin and a hint of bitter onion.
Mouthfeel is good, high medium. Good carbonation level, and a lingering flavor for a little while. Pretty well balanced, maybe a little sweeter than most Double IPAs. Starts nice and sweet with bitterness that comes in stages.
We all know Avery can brew IPAs, Avery is actually the IPA that got me in to IPAs. This was a solid Double IPA, glad to have gotten a bottle.
