We crack the bottle, pouring a brew of cinnamon orange into our Founders snifters. It boasts a two and a half finger tall head of clean-white, soapy bubbles, showing great retention. Webbed lacing is left around the glass as it eventually fizzes away. A chill haze cuts clarity, and tiny flecks of sediment are noted throughout. Carbonation appears to be moderate. The nose gives sweet notes of biscuity, bready brown and caramel malts, chalky pales, sugared iced tea tannins, tart and juicy fruitiness of grapefruit, herbal, and nectary hops, soft aromatic florals, bubblegum esters, cornbreadiness, orange zest, white grape skins, malted milk balls, black pepper spice, and buttery blueberry cobbler. Our first impression is that while the hops seem initially faded on the sip, they come back in full, bittering force, à la far west coast influence, for a striking finale. The taste begins with buttery, bready malts, heavy brown sugar sweetness, phenolic twang, cheap pancake syrup, tinny metallics, fusel booze, sticky resinous hops of citric and pine varietals, bubblegum esters, chalk, brown and caramel malts, and floral stemmage. The middle peaks with lime rind and tonic water bite, cleaner pale maltiness, banana bready sweetness, lightly burnt molasses, heavily salted butters, black pepper spice of booziness, toffee caramels, and lactic acidity. The end comes with frank metallic yeastiness, gravel, cooled banana esters, raisin fruitiness, tart citric rind, pale and caramel malts, vegetal radish spice, green grassiness, and a final punch of savory herbal hops. The aftertaste breathes bitterly of raw honeycomb dustiness, ground and gravel, juicy grapefruity hops, cumin and raw curry, lime rind, gin airs, spicy orange zest, revived chalkiness of pale malts, commercial vanilla cake icing, and freshly baked brown breadiness. The body is thick and chewy, and the carbonation is surprisingly high. Each sip affords raw slurp and smack, with creamy froth, foam, and pop to the back of the lips and the deep palate. The mouth is instantly cooled and coated, but drips into robust astringent pucker along the molar line. The abv is appropriate, and it drinks as more of a sipper.

Overall, what we enjoyed most about this brew was its aroma. This was where the hops were best showcased, with a nice background base of grand maltiness. The latter really came through in the flavoring, effectively muting the hops with residual sugars and hidden darkness of grain. We were actually quite surprised to find such a pervasive butteriness to the flavoring, which acted to pull the malt bill further into the foreground. This offering represents a pleasant departure from the traditional Avery anniversary saison stock of the past several years, and it is certainly big enough to sit amongst them, but we found it to be a little simplistic without enough overt balance and “pow” to make us that much more excited about it.

Poured into an impy nonic a clear medium golden with a large blooming one and a half finger white head atop that left multiple rings of broken chunks behind as it settled.Caramel malts and tropical fruits in the nose, sweet but not overly so.I like the full almost airy feel in the mouth,it went down nicely.Flavors of grilled pineapple and citrus with a tinge of vidalia onion the is a little off putting at first but doesn't overpower like another Colorado brewed beer wich I won't name. It's sweet but not nearly as sweet as way to many of the style,a worthy anniversary beer from a solid brewery.

Light brown in color off of the pour. A very light bit of foam remains after the pour. The nose is a faint but it is definitely all about the hops. Faint but apparent grapefruit hops on the nose. The flavoring is all hops with the grapefruit and slightly orange flavor. The hops are what you get in the aftertaste and there is a nice hop fade on the tongue. A pretty brisk mouthfeel and it is fairly refreshing. Very well done.

Appearance: good clarity, orangey with white creamy head

Aroma: very piney, like a fresh cut Christmas tree, citrus aromas as well, biscuity malt

Taste: outrageously piney and grapefruity with an almost indetectable biscuity malt backbone, clean yeast

Mouthfeel: oddly light and crisp for a 9.7% ale. Medium carbonation

Overall: Delicious. Definitely worth a try. A step up from most DIPAs in terms of piney and grapefruity character that literally explodes on your taste buds

Floral, grass, some pineapple and light tropical fruit astringency. Sweet pink grapefruit in the background along with some pine and very, very slight resin stickiness. Very noticeable breadiness and biscuit sweetness. Really nice DIPA - not very aggressive, but well balanced and big on the floral, grass, and light-fruit sweetness.
