22oz bottle from Hop City (Atlanta, GA). 8.99. Bottled 5/1/13. Served in a Burnt Hickory snifter.
Pours an attractive orange gold with a full finger of pale head. The head fades to a small halo which remains throughout and leaves nice full webs of lace.
Bright hop-forward aromas of oranges, pine needles, peach and a twang of peppery spice.
Right off the bat those strong, sharp citrusy hops are saddled up against a base of thick, sweet carmelized malts. Tangerines, sweet bread, grapefruit, semi sour peach, pine, earthy grass, peppercorns, cracker and a nice but not overpowering nip of booze. Excellent mix of super hoppy blended with sweet malts.
Oily, medium full feel with a nice moderate carbonation. Coats the tongue for a long bittersweet citrus peel finish.
Another outstanding imperial IPA from Avery. This ranks right up there with Maharaja in my book. I love a good bed of sweet malt for my hop bombs and Twenty has that a-plenty. This is definately worth a try, particularly if you're a fan of Maharaja. I plan to have this one a few more times this summer.
