"Stout with coffee added"

Made with Ozo Coffee, which I consumed a few days prior in Boulder. Lots of emphasis on brewing technique, but the roasting left a lot to be desired. Anyways...

Really great coffee stout - very, very coffee forward. Huge aromas of light roast, chocolate, dry malt. Flavor follows suit with a really nice iced-coffee bite and a dry lingering finish. Yum.

had this on tap at avery in a pint glass this is listed there as a taproom rarity so it isnt retired
pours brown to black with a very small tan head
smell mostly of coffee and smoke with a slight chocolate or cocoa smell as it warmed
taste mostly same as smell coffee and smoke for them most part faint hint of chocolate
feel dry
this is the out of bounds stout with ozo(local coffee co.) added
i liked this better than the out of bounds although the coffee was a little too dominant

definitely on tap and happening now at the new taproom, this time done with ozo local coffee. its more like a brown to me, and not nearly as good as some of the other avery coffee beers out there, but it looks nice, big airy tan head on a very light body for the style. the nose is coffee all the way, but its acidic and sort of tannic and weird in the taste, stale almost, and really not all that appealing. its not the coffee, its the way it was added, it just isnt as nice as so many others. it also seems quite a bit thin for what it is, i mean, this is brown ale before its stout in my mind. tangy almost in the finish with the coffee. im being critical, this is good beer for sure, but i dont think its up to the high standard avery has set for itself, and colorado as a state has established for coffee beers. this contributes little in that regard i think. still, always cool to use local coffee, but ive seen ozo specifically used much more agreeably than it was here. fun to try new stuff always though at avery, where so many cool beers never leave the brewery.
