12oz bottle poured into my tall wheat/pilsner glass. The body is a hazy straw yellow in appearance, I made no effort to get the extra yeast from the bottom of the bottle into this glass but I may on the next. Huge white head results from the pour, a little sticker than I expected, good retention and rings of lace are left around the glass. The nose is very nice, musty, with clove, orange, rye dough, bananas and hints of pineapple and white pepper. This beer is mildly sweet and as smooth as silk, really light in mouthfeel with the yeast fluffing it up a little bit so it’s not too slick. I can taste the wheat malt, the orange flavor here seems a bit sweeter than other wits I’ve had and it works really well. The obligatory flavors of clove and coriander are here as well accompanied by cracked white pepper in the finish. A good witbier I can see myself drinking more of this in the future.

Enjoyed out of a 12 oz brown bottle from SPIN! Pizza in Kansas City. I didn't catch the bottling/enjoy by date on this one, unfortunately. Poured into one of those tricky "pint" glass tumblers that has a ridge inside the glass so that it only holds 12 ounces in spite of looking like it would hold 16.

Appearance - Body is bright yellow and sunny with a slightly orangish twinge that gives it overall a hue similar to egg yolk. The consistency is cloud, preventing light from passing through, but giving it that glowing tone from the reflection on all the particulate. Atop the body sits a one and a half finger head of fluffy white foam that seems to dissipate pretty quickly, and leaves nothing in the way of lace. There is a ringlet of foam around the edge of the glass as well as a film of bubbles that is slightly thicker in some places across the surface of the liquid.

Smell - Pretty standard witbier characteristics, with Hawaiian sweet bread and mild spice along the lines of coriander and a fairly strong presence of clove. Overall, it's rather nondescript--not unpleasant, but not particularly wowing either. Some faint citrus, but the spice and wheat are the primary players here.

Taste - Like the smell, the taste is a blend of unassuming bready sweetness and baking spices with clove and some coriander. And like the smell, the taste isn't particularly stunning--it's mild and easily consumed, but lacking that little twinge of tartness that comes in the best witbiers (in my opinion anyway). There is a nice gentle sweetness of orange peel as well, but it's faint, and comes in only slightly on the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Light bodied and low to moderate carbonation, with a round, wheaty mouthfeel and a semisweet finish with low bitterness--almost none at all.

Overall, a reasonably tasty beer, and I will say that the fact that it comes in cans gives it a head start on the usual suspects I reach for when I want a wit. Definitely a great beer to take out on the lake. And truth be told, this is probably one of my preferred offerings from Avery--at least out of their regular lineup.

A: Bright clear straw color, good carbonation and bubbles. Minimal head.

S: Pretty weak, can't detect much.

T: Citrus upfront with hops after taste.

M: Pleasant, drinkable.

O: Nothing exciting but a decent beer, no complaints.

Don't think I would get this one again but it tasted okay.
