An authentic Belgian-style white ale, this Rascal is unfiltered and cleverly spiced with coriander and Curaçao orange peel producing a refreshingly zesty classic ale. As our flagship beer and silver medal winner of the Belgian Witbier category at the World Beer Cup 2018, we pay tribute to the history and time-honored tradition of the steadfast Belgian Witbier by brewing White Rascal with the same Belgian ingredients used by 15th century brewers from the village of Hoegaarden. The tales and images of demons are popular in Belgian folklore and we follow suit with our own White Rascal.

Color was slightly hazier than I expected, while still had a straw yellow color. Very thick white head. Nose was lemon zest. Taste was also lemonzest with a white pepper finish. Somewhat dry beer.

It is hazy golden/orange with a thick white head. The aroma is coriander and orange, yeast. It has a creamy mouthfeel, and the flavor is wheat bread, coriander, some orange, and some yeast.

Revisited May 28th, 2023
Bright orange body, hazy; thick, white head, dense and spongy. The smell and taste are rather similar to my original scores, perhaps a touch fresher but not enough to warrant a higher score. The mouthfeel also remains the same.
This is remains a fine beer overall.

Crystal clear, pale yellow body; very sparse carbonation; fair head, white and loosely sudsy that soon degrades to thin patches floating atop the beer . Faded yet spicy nose; strong coriander; very little sense of orange peel. Dull overall sweetness with some minor zesty spiciness; mild phenolic bitterness. Medium-heavy body; sticky.
Pretty good for an old beer. I will certainly have to try a fresher version. I'm confident my scores will go up accordingly.

Poured out of a can into a tulip glass.
Look - (4) Hazy golden appearance. About a 3/4 inch head. Almost no lacing.
Nose - (3.5) Alcohol up front with citrus a little farther back. Some very quiet sourdough and green apple notes in the background.
Taste - (3.5) The beer had enough carbonation that, at first, I only tasted the soda-water like CO2. As the bubbles died down, a pleasant bitter-orange came to the forefront. It finished with hops bitterness and a citrus zing. Aftertaste was pepper-y and tannic, like a good cup of black tea.
I let it warm for a few minutes and went in for some more sips. The sweetness of the beer really comes forward as it warms and the bitterness of the orange fades. Some new mango, honey, and lemon notes.
Mouthfeel - (3) Seltzer-like carbonation at first. Almost overwhelmed the flavor for me. It would come down to your personal preference on carbonation whether this is a drawback or a selling point!
Overall - (3.5) Not quite as complex as I had hoped (which comes down more to my expectations than the beer itself) but very refreshing! This would be a lovely beer to pair with a summer barbecue.

Had on tap at Arvada pub and grub
On arrival, 1 finger of fine creamy white head was present on top of a hazy golden straw body. Head retention is decent, and after a few minutes settles out as a fine white cap.
Aroma is very bright, and orange aromatics immediately jump out with a light yeasty wheat aroma propping everything up nicely. Coriander is here, but blends very well. Smells very attenuated.
Taste is nicer than the aroma, with a full rich wheat and malt flavor throughout, while maintaining the brightness of everything. Once the initial orangey brightness settles, the coriander transitions from the orange to a malty character seamlessly. With a nice soft but bright flavor.
Feel is full bodied, but nicely attenuated with a dryness that balances the wheat feel well. This is a nice all rounder beer with something for everyone. Easy drinking, but more mouthfeel than most lagers.

Comes in a clear straw color--though not quite crystal clear, as there are some fine particles in suspension. However, it remains translucent. Small head. A little lacing.
Smells like banana, pear, green apple, coriander, and hay.
Tastes of green banana, pear, green apple, sweet lemon, ice tea, coriander, crackery malt, and hay.
Medium-light body, well carbonated, crisp, leans slightly sweet but doesn't linger.
A solid American take on witbier. Pretty enjoyable; can't go wrong with it.
