Visited Avery on a recent trip to Colorado. Went on the tour and sampled about seven beers. It was a Saturday, so I want to preface what I am about to say by saying that I understand that the place was busy because it was the weekend, BUT I must say, I have been to many breweries and many bars in my life and I have never in all my life had service as appallingly horrific as I did at their taproom.

Absolutely godawful, shameful even. There were two servers for the entire place, one full time bartender, one table server. The bartender, an unfriendly Scot (or Irishman?), kept me waiting for literally 20 minutes (I timed it out of curiosity) each and every time I walked up to the bar to order another beer. And the guy moved like molasses.

He gave preferential treatment to orders from the tables, which meant that he basically had his back to the everyone at the bar the entire time, ignoring us sad sacks who had come, cash in hand, to sample their only product--what fools! When he did, at long last, bark at you for your order, he did it in a curt, aggressive, almost demeaning way that suggested you were not worth his time and were lucky for the lack of service.

I always thought that the brewery visit/tour was the ultimate in PR for these breweries, large and small, the physical embodiment of who they are and what they stand for, but now I understand it works the other way too. Far from indoctrinated, I left this visit with a bad taste in my mouth for all things Avery, and it wasn't just the mediocre beer.

A little piece of advice fellas: hire some more waitstaff, even if it's just on the weekends. Your customers (you know, the ones who pay the bills?) will thank you.

Avery is located on the outskirts of Boulder (about 30 minutes from Denver). Its a fairly large location with both a large bar area and a restaurant.

The taproom has quite a few of their beers on tap. If you love hot beers, this is the place for you (a lot of >15% beers). Pretty darn good brewer. I wish the service was a bit better though.

Avery has a rocking brewery going on. Extremely busy, with staff that work as a team to get shit done. Service was hit and miss since they were so busy, but they were working as hard as they could. A must visit brewery.

was here on saturday 12.5.15. despite living only an hour away this was my first time at the new facility
we showed up at 245pm hoping to be in between the lunch rush and dinner rush and found the place packed to the gills nonetheless. we were able to secure 2 seats at the bar which i always prefer as you are closer to the action and i always find service more attentive at the bar.
the vibe here is laid back but the place it self is very polished, very corporate especially from the exterior. there is an upstairs bar and dining with gift shop and take out beers, and a downstairs with bar and dining plus outside seating . place can probably hold 700 people. quality of beers is excellent and selection is mind boggling....i am guessing they had 25 of their beers on tap. we had Raja, fall day ipa, uncle jacobs, mephistopholes, out of bounds, out of mind, stoutworks orange and Czar
food was high quality and service was solid despite how packed the place was.
if i had to list any complaints, they would be minor at best. no fries with the burgers was disappointing but the mushroom polenta side was awesome. location is 15 minutes outside of boulder in an office park which means more driving but other than that this place is amazing and leaves them tons of room for growth. total beer amusement park, and we will return soon. took some czar, maharaja and raja home as well.

Dare I say the best brewery experience Ihave ever had? Phenomenal food and beer, selection of both was out of this world! Beer was expensive, but who cares? I'm going back again today. Servers were great, but it was packed on a Friday night. Gift shop well stocked with cool glasses. Catwalk over brewery was neat. Carry out had a few very rare bottle I will put in cellar. This is a must for true craft beer lovers.

Checked out Avery on a nice fall day.

It was busy when we arrived, we intended to have lunch, but there was a pretty long wait for a table, so we grabbed a few tasters and went outside to sit on the "grass". (artificial, but it was nice) There is a dining area / bar downstairs adjacent to the outdoor area. Inside is a swag gift shop upstairs, and another dining area. Really nice place.

Quality was top notch. My wife and I split 6 tasters, and they were all excellent except one.

Selection is great. They had 20+ taps (I think almost 30), and a great variety, light stuff, IPAs, barrel aged, sours, etc...

Service was good. The guy that helped me was friendly and quick despite how busy they were.

Great place, highly recommended.

Vibe: There are 2 areas at Avery. The restaurant upstairs has more of a laid-back upscale vibe. The bar is more energetic and loud, with a more casual vibe. Both have the same beers on tap. To help understand why Avery's rating is trending upward, you need to know that they just built a new $27 million dollar facility on the outskirts of Boulder (finished last year?) that is next to a small lake and some old massive cottonwood trees. The facility is state of the art, clean, and modern.

Quality: These beers are great. We sampled 5 different beers and they were exceptional. The ding off from 5 is that the pumpkin beer I had was unremarkable and most likely made with canned gourds.

Service: The service was efficient and friendly, helping to guide you into the right beers to try.

Selection: They have 30+ of their own beers on tap. That is beyond impressive. They have the old standbys, the special regular beers, and a bunch of small batch one-offs that are truely unique. I had a lime-raspberry-salted sour beer that was phenomenal.

Food: The food was quite good, we had really tasty legs n thighs served up like jumbo hot wings, and a hot pretzel that was one of the best I've ever had. The mustard was too sweet though. They have some more casual pub fare and some more elaborate bistro type food as well.

Conclusion: This place looks and feels great, the food is tasty and the beer is exceptional. The only thing bad about Avery is the prices are a little steep for a lot of their beers, then again, the beers are pretty special. As with any good place, it can be very popular. $9/5 oz makes for some of the most expensive beer you can find, but it was also the highest rated beer in Colorado.
