Visited Avery on a recent trip to Colorado. Went on the tour and sampled about seven beers. It was a Saturday, so I want to preface what I am about to say by saying that I understand that the place was busy because it was the weekend, BUT I must say, I have been to many breweries and many bars in my life and I have never in all my life had service as appallingly horrific as I did at their taproom.

Absolutely godawful, shameful even. There were two servers for the entire place, one full time bartender, one table server. The bartender, an unfriendly Scot (or Irishman?), kept me waiting for literally 20 minutes (I timed it out of curiosity) each and every time I walked up to the bar to order another beer. And the guy moved like molasses.

He gave preferential treatment to orders from the tables, which meant that he basically had his back to the everyone at the bar the entire time, ignoring us sad sacks who had come, cash in hand, to sample their only product--what fools! When he did, at long last, bark at you for your order, he did it in a curt, aggressive, almost demeaning way that suggested you were not worth his time and were lucky for the lack of service.

I always thought that the brewery visit/tour was the ultimate in PR for these breweries, large and small, the physical embodiment of who they are and what they stand for, but now I understand it works the other way too. Far from indoctrinated, I left this visit with a bad taste in my mouth for all things Avery, and it wasn't just the mediocre beer.

A little piece of advice fellas: hire some more waitstaff, even if it's just on the weekends. Your customers (you know, the ones who pay the bills?) will thank you. (1,695 characters)

Beautiful building, over 30 beers on tap including many rare sours. Awesome self guided brewery tour and a great looking menu. Plenty to choose from in the bottles to go area. (175 characters)

The servers are very knowledgable, there are 3 areas for seating, each with their own feel, and you can walk through the brewery on a catwalk any time you'd like. There's also a great store that's affordably priced. (215 characters)

Stark white and blood red brewery looms over the industrial landscape around it, an ominous presence eyeing the snow-capped mountains in the distance. But that's where the crowd was headed, so in we went. Enviable decor (repurposed used barrel staves make a lot of the light fixtures), but otherwise a very stark and commercial feeling environment. Staff had personality and charm to spare, which helped. It was slick to have a small bar at the back of the brewery catwalk, too.

The small restaurant (also tons of barrel-themed decor) is lovely and more warm than the entrance and brewery, but of course packed as it's quite small. Mind-blowing tap selection, so awesome to have Maharaja and Tweak and PumpKYn and tons of barreled wild ale options simultaneously.

Cooler with scores of brews to take home, many available in multiple (and pricy) vintages.

Wish we knew they had a patio around the side on the first floor! (924 characters)

"Sold out"

I expected a unique craft brewery and happened upon a family oriented restaurant that provided their beers. From the moment I entered, the craft brewery expectation was completely trampled by the unnecessary large two story family restaurant. The brewery conveyed a sense of commercialization which was not in keeping with the craft brewery art and experience.

Hands down some of the most unique and tasteful beers I have had. Terrific bartender and service made up for the lack of a taste room. (508 characters)

wow!! the new Avery is killing it!! And a huge step up from the old alley. Two restaurants located in the building, one open to all and one reservations only. from what i could tell they are the same menu. also there is an outdoor patio and a small bar hidden in the back.
