From the 22 oz Rock 106.1 bottle, it poured a coppery amber with a small head. A bit of malt and hops in the nose. Somewhat hoppy flavor as expected. Enjoyable.

Southbound "Fade to Red" India Style Red Ale, 7.3% abv
22 oz. brown glass bottle, "RELEASED 9/2014" - 3 months old
Rock 106.1 !!! YEAH !!! I know that others will claim that this is not "strong" / bold enough to be an "India Style Red Ale", but I think it fits the bill. It's not an IPA after all, but an "India Style Red Ale" which should be just a large amber ale/IPA combo. It's just a more malty, rounded and balanced beer. Its sweetish caramelish malt is balanced by bitterness, but it still leaves a distinctly bitter finish. And the hops come through in both the aroma and the flavor, delivering soft pine/spruce and juicy "Fruity Pebbles" fruitiness as well as pineapple, pear, peach, mango, and apple. So although it's not an aggressive, raspy and resinous IPA, it's certainly hoppy! And it's certainly drinkable! It's complex hop character opens slowly as it warms, keeping it interesting; the rich malt satisfies; and it's malty but not sweet, leaving it drying - but not so drying that you need a glass of water to reset your palate every couple of sips. Remarkably pleasant!

22 ounce bottle - $7.99 at Bullock's Wine & Spirits in Marietta, Georgia.
Released __ 20/__. Looks like somebody forgot to fill out the label.
Appearance: Reddish body, chiefly clearish, with a white head that falls just shy of an inch. Good lacing.
Smell: Toasted sugars, crisped bread, grapefruit and tangerine, a moderate earthy spiciness, small hint of cotton candy, and a tiny spritz of alcohol.
Taste: Toasty breadcrusts with a sweet twinge of caramel. Citrusy American hops with a little spiciness giving a touch of spiced charred tangerines. Medium-plus bitterness. As with the nose, a little touch of cotton candy, just like at the county fair. Slightly warming, slightly drying, bittersweet finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation.
Overall: A good, old-fashioned bitter, citrusy brew of comparable strength. The hops don't quite run away with the show with a brutal amount of bitterness, as there's an ample maltiness. Fairly good overall.

22oz bottle from Hop City (Atlanta, GA). 7.99. Bottled 09/2014. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.
Pours ruby amber with two and a half fingers of ecrue head. A fairly thick layer remains and leaves a good deal of crusty lacing.
Aromas are grassy and floral with some slight citrus.
Tastes is a blend of bitter floral, rye, grapefruit rinds, grass, dirt, pepper and mint. I don't know if this was actually brewed with rye but that is the only malt character I detect. There is plenty of evidence of hops but it doesn't all jive with my tastes. That said, the alcohol is well integrated and virtually unnoticeable.
Slick medium body with a tad too much carbonation for my tastes. Leafy, earthy, bitter aftertaste.
Fade To Red was ok but didn't give me the hop fix I expected from an "India style red ale". I've only been able to try a couple of Southbound's offerings so far but this isn't quite up to what I'd come to expect.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had an amber color and a hazy consistency. There was an inch and a half of foamy, long-lasting head. Very good lacing.
S: A decent aroma of hops, malt, and some caramel.
T: Tasted pretty much like it smelled: A good shot of hops, a little caramel, and light malt notes. The hops content may be a little overdone (it kind of overpowers everything else), but not a bad flavor.
M: A well-carbonated beer with a prickly finish. Medium-bodied.
O: This is a solid beer. It won't knock your socks off, but it is generally well done.
