Poured from a 16 oz can purchased at the 802 store in Manchester. Pours deep amber red with decent foamy head; slowly recedes but leaves plenty of lacing. Burnt malt aftertaste coupled with subtle delicious hops. Great for the style.

Solid two finger head, good density, about average retention, not a lot of lacing. Orange base to the liquid, darkened by browns and a little red, transparent, few visible bubbles. Nose of cola bean, gingerbread, molasses, all countered by a jolt of unprocessed grains and notes of hay and grass, mix of plum, apricot, cherry fruit scents, nice overall lift. Medium-bodied, feels lighter during the entry but packs on some weight by the finish. Remains on the dry side, one could argue it's more bitter than many in its class. The molasses, cola, scone elements toned down to allow the hoppiness to take up shelf space. Carbonation has a tight weave and helps to keep it fresh. Straightforward, not overwrought, easy to drink.

Red Dwarf is an amber ale brewed with two types of malts and 4 types of hops, with some American yeast thrown in. It is a quick pour; once settled, it has a dark amber color with a semi-translucent body. The head is moderate with a thin and splotchy lacing. The Dwarf boasts a hearty malt taste with bits of plum smattering the palate. Nice nose, but not very strong. There is a subtle grassiness at the end. The body is crisp, but a bit on the heavy side. It makes for a great fireside quaff on one of those blustery Vermont nights. Drop-In always has something good. Be sure to drop in when in Middlebury.

Pours a mild amber hue from the squealer I purchased at the brewery on 11/12. Has a toasty feel to my nose with good dose of hops. Rich, toasted malt upfront with just the right touch of hops. Highly drinkable. Reminds me somewhat of Roxy Rolles from Magic Hat with the hops dialed down and malt dialed up. I love it. Would purchase it again!!!

Since I enjoy a good Amber Ale, I took a chance and picked up a 4-pack of Red Dwarfs while traveling in VT. Turned out to be a favorable decision. Amidst the many great IPAs for which VT is famous, it's gratifying to find a solid Amber Ale occupying some shelf space. Writing on can says that it features an "American ale yeast renowned for its clean flavor" - I know nothing about their yeast but think that "clean flavor" is a very good way to summarize my opinion of Red Dwarf. I'll look for it again on my next VT trip.

The appearance was a semi-clear amber color with a nice transparencey allowing some carbonation to be seen rising at an appropriate pace. The smell started off with some roasty nuts, light toffee and a little bit of caramel. Light grassy hops slide in to balance nicely. The taste was mainly sweet through the previously mentioned flavors adding a spark of bitter to sweet grassy hops to balance. Toffee to caramel aftertaste with a dry sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body with a decent sessionable feel about it. Carbonation seems to run nicely. Nice bitterness runs in but isn’t overbearing. Overall, nice amber ale with some bitterness for flavor. I’d have again.
