It was pointed out to me this past year that I have BeerFly reviews in all of the fifty states plus DC with the exceptions of Ohio and West (By God!) Virginia and the question arose as to why. Simple. In September 2007, a laptop bag was swiped off of my front stoop containing a laptop and two notebooks, one of which contained notes from both Cincinnati and Kleveland as well as Morgantown, WV, leaving me disheartened. I am still angry, but since the notebooks probably became trash, it befell me to make a couple of day trips out of Pittsburgh over the Holiday Break.
My first foray was to Kleveland, but an early arrival left me with time to kill, so I bought an RTA bus pass and headed to the Rock & Roll HOF for a visit and to renew my lapsed membership. Disembarking at the corner of E. 9th Street, I almost ran smack into a fence with a Westmalle banner attached to it! Looking up, I took note of the lizard incorporated into the logo and thought, "A Winking Lizard entity!" I used to have family in Parma and so I have visited Kleveland repeatedly, so I was cognizant. I put this place at the top of my To Do list before heading up to the museum as snow fell around me.
Returning, I took note of the long, fenced-in outdoor patio running along E. 9th Street, but the entry was inside of the Galleria Mall. A short wooden fence, interspersed with barrels, created an indoor outdoor seating area for those unwilling to brave the cold. The wide entry opened directly onto the m.d.s. in the centerline with a cabinet of logo items in the left-facing window. A restaurant area with standard tables and chairs was off to the right.
I, however, gravitated to the blonde wood, "U"-shaped bar, slightly behind and to the left of the m.d.s. The bar area was a sea of high tables and chairs with TV monitors everywhere. The draft lists were also on monitors, along with Foursquare and Untappd check-ins, neither of which existed during my core adventures from June 2006 through August 2008. It was Kristmas in Kleveland and miniature leg lamps illuminated the bar! At the right end of the bar area was the increasingly busy kitchen with a sign for the "Cleveland Indians Photograph Booth" on its left side and a smoked-glass window on its front.
At Noon, business picked up, but by then, I was established. My server, John, hailed from eastern PA and his GM was from Da Burgh, so I felt right at home. They did not serve flights, per se, but they were happy to sell me as many samples as I could handle.
This place was a good choice on my part, but YMMV. It had a friendly, attentive, unobtrusive staff and great signage, including a reminder that "Kids Parked at Bar Will Be Towed at Parents' Expense [-] 21 & Over Please". I'd be back if I were visiting.
Mom Test: Certainly! Food; TVs to (potentially) keep her occupied; a clean, well-lit space; friendly staff.
For my gay friends: Sorry, but I did not see any Twinks at Winks. That does not mean that they would be unwelcome, but just that none were in attendance.

I visited here today to check out the place. I sat at a high top along some windows near the bar. Every few minutes there was a cold draft in the air. They were getting a delivery and the guy kept opening the door by the bar letting in the nice gush of cold air every few minutes. People at the table next to me put on their coats.
Next, the server was awful. After being seated I asked for a beer list. He pointed to a black screen and told me that normally the beer list was digital and on that screen. Must not have been working. He still couldn’t get me a menu and asked what styles I liked so he could pick one out. Uh...no. I wanted to see a list. He asked if I had a bar scanner on my phone. I did. He had me scan a QRcode on a coaster on the table to get the list. What if I didn’t have that on my phone? At this point I’m cold AND annoyed.
So I ordered a pretzel. It was very good. I ordered a Russian Imperial Stout that came out freezing cold. Must have been 32 F easily. I had it sit for over 10 minutes before I could even taste it. Unless they are planning on serving Bud Lite I don’t get why its that cold. Overall I was not happy with my experience. I left here annoyed and somewhat pissed. It took me 30+ mins. to drive here and you have to pay for parking here. I won’t be going back. Even if the digital beer board works (which is cool).
