Saison / Farmhouse Ale |  7.30% ABV

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes/Commercial Description:
Little Lobster on the Prairie is a Farmhouse Saison that is lightly hopped with Galaxy hops and fermented with Brettanomyces Bruxellensis. This yeast brings notes of funky, musty, overripe fruits as well as light barnyard notes staying true to the farmhouse style. Refermented in the bottle with Blue Lobsters house yeast, this beer should be decanted and opened carefully as this beer is still developing in the bottle.

This was a collaboration brew with Prairie Artisan Ales. Thank you to Chase and Colin Healey!

750 ml from ProperPinter. Thanks, Dan.

Served into a 6oz wine glass. /TØØØØØØØØRRRSSSTT //shakes fists at heavens.

Beautiful pour. Strawburn pour with billowing light, bright white head. Pleasant fizzy dissipation and good tight carb bubbles ring the glass throughout.

Smells of fresh straw, green apples, with mashed green grapes - it is faintly peppery.

Taste leaves little on the table, hitting the high notes of sour fruit and white pepper well. There is little funk - right in my wheelhouse really - and I enjoy that there is nearly no trace of alcohol in the traditional "boozy" sense. The faint alcohol burn at the death is magnified by the light, clean finish.

The best of the limited offerings I've had from Blue Lobster and possibly the best of the limited offerings I've had from Prairie.

750 ml bottle courtesy of Cam....thanks to a great trade partner! Into a wine glass....

Very cloudy yellow with a huge fluff that settles to a nice surface cover of white and some significant lacing and spatter.

Smells very yeasty and soapy, with a touch of lemon and some fruitiness underneath that claws to be released.

Starts clean with mellow fruits...lemon and kiwi...and a light sourness that quickly slams into a wall of Dial soap and yeast. More soapy and yeasty than funky. The fruits show themselves again on the back end on the aftertaste and the soapy qualities linger.

Quite dry and champagne like..did I mention the bar of soap?

Some nice qualities here but not a beer that fits my wheelhouse. I'd like a bit more of the sourness and Galaxy hops to shine and less of the...wait for it...soap.

Got this in a trade as an extra!

Pours a lemon juice light yellow, hazy as hell, with a big frothy white head that dissipates quickly to a soapy layer. Plenty of carbonation bubbles coming up from the bottom.

The nose presents freshly squeezed lime juice, hay, grapefruit orchard, white grape, seltzer, and just a hint of musty basement. Not a huge aroma but what is present gives off nice balance.

Holy moly. From the aroma I wasn't expecting the flavors from the first sip. Big citrus fruits like lime, kumquat, lemon, mandarin, and kiwi. Brett giving off mustiness, overripe pineapple, and an earthy leather on the finish. Sweetness present but balanced out by a fruity tartness and substantial enough hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel is light and spritzy enough for a farmhouse ale. Given the flavors of the beer a heavier mouthfeel would take away from the drinkability somewhat. The prickliness from the carbonation on the finish lifts those tart flavors off the palate and paired with the slight hop bitterness teases at being dry when in reality this is on the sweeter side of the farmhouse ale category. That's the beauty of the tartness and hops though. They balance everything off very well.

Overall this a prime example of the innovation that is going into all these new American interpretations of the farmhouse/saison style. Drinkability is huge on this, easily a perfect summer beer. The galaxy hops add a beautiful touch to the brett funk and tart character. As much hype that Bomb! and the Noir beers get, it's absurd to see Chase Healys best creations being overlooked such as this, Merica, and the good old Prairie Ale.
