Saison / Farmhouse Ale |  7.30% ABV

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes/Commercial Description:
Little Lobster on the Prairie is a Farmhouse Saison that is lightly hopped with Galaxy hops and fermented with Brettanomyces Bruxellensis. This yeast brings notes of funky, musty, overripe fruits as well as light barnyard notes staying true to the farmhouse style. Refermented in the bottle with Blue Lobsters house yeast, this beer should be decanted and opened carefully as this beer is still developing in the bottle.

This was a collaboration brew with Prairie Artisan Ales. Thank you to Chase and Colin Healey!

750ml bottle poured into a Duvel tulip.

A - Pours very pale golden in color, faint traces of haze, endless streams of effervescence rising throughout the glass. A thick cap of frothy white foam, 3 fingers high, slowly fades and falls with visible activity that provides entertainment while waiting for the chance to sample this beer.

S - Lots of fruity notes in the aroma - tart apples, pears, lemons, oranges. Candy-like in a Sweet-Tart way with acidic tartness. Nice funky notes - earthy and barnyardy. This is a really enticing aroma overall...

T - Acidic and tart up front with an assertive barnyardy funk. Citric acid tartness/bitter finish on every sip. Gingery - almost ginger ale like at times. Spicy hop bitterness at a medium/low level. Apples and lemon fruity and tart flavors. Plays more like a straight up wild ale than a saison, but this really isn't a complaint. Light, biscuity malt base...just barely there.

M - Thinnish mouthfeel - dry, tart and crisp. Pretty tart and sour overall, not really in a mouth puckering way, but more like a refreshing lemonade'y sort of tartness, although much drier. Plenty of yeasty funkiness that works very well here. Carbonation is high, very fizzy and a bit foamy in the mouth.

T - Very nice beer...more wild than saison, but saison is such a broad category it probably still does fit within it fine. Fruity, funky, tart and quite tasty. Hope to see this one again sometime.

thanks to TATURBO and ICCULUS for a taste of this beer!

750 C&C format bottle. No pop as the cork leaves the bottle neck.

poured into a SP wine stem.

Appearance: translucent pale straw yellow bodied beer with large and billowy bone white head. Slowely drops down to a thick cap leaving thick lacing on the glass.

Smell: Citrusy and bretty saison. Slightly sweet grainy and pale malts. White pepper. Fruity brett. Light bitterness.

Taste: Slightly sweet malty saison. Bready malts. White pepper and fruity brett just like the nose predicts. Moderate yeast and light barnyard funk. Hints of pears and white grape. Slightly musty funk.

Mouthfeel: light bodied beer with moderate carbonation. Crisp and clean beer. Very drinkable.

Overall: This is a nice saison! I wouldnt mind having a few of these in my beer fridge during the dog days of summmer to help beat the heat! Great collaboration beer by Blue Lobster and Prairie! This is my first Blue Losbster beer and I would be willing to try other beers from them.

750 ml bottle courtesy of Cam....thanks to a great trade partner! Into a wine glass....

Very cloudy yellow with a huge fluff that settles to a nice surface cover of white and some significant lacing and spatter.

Smells very yeasty and soapy, with a touch of lemon and some fruitiness underneath that claws to be released.

Starts clean with mellow fruits...lemon and kiwi...and a light sourness that quickly slams into a wall of Dial soap and yeast. More soapy and yeasty than funky. The fruits show themselves again on the back end on the aftertaste and the soapy qualities linger.

Quite dry and champagne like..did I mention the bar of soap?

Some nice qualities here but not a beer that fits my wheelhouse. I'd like a bit more of the sourness and Galaxy hops to shine and less of the...wait for it...soap.
