Notes/Commercial Description:
Little Lobster on the Prairie is a Farmhouse Saison that is lightly hopped with Galaxy hops and fermented with Brettanomyces Bruxellensis. This yeast brings notes of funky, musty, overripe fruits as well as light barnyard notes staying true to the farmhouse style. Refermented in the bottle with Blue Lobsters house yeast, this beer should be decanted and opened carefully as this beer is still developing in the bottle.

This was a collaboration brew with Prairie Artisan Ales. Thank you to Chase and Colin Healey!

Big thanks to Ricky for sharing this interested beer.

Pours a nice fluffy pillowy head hits 1 finger then fades semi slowly, nice soapy lacing, hazy pale blond yellow color.

Nose fairly funky, juice Brett character, little lemony grassy hay like, wheat, mild straw and wet grass, hint of citrus and lemon rind, little bready yeast and dough, but fruity, mild bright citrus fruit.

Taste starts with nice fruity characters, juicy mild citrus fruit, lemon and lemongrass, then into juicy grainy toasty malts, little wet hay and wheat, light dough but not really any cracker. Funk is nice, mild but definite Brett B funk, not really horsehair but funk nonetheless, and hint of pineapple. Finish is dry, little acidic and flemmy, more citrus, light Brett funk, and grainy straw. Mild bitterness more of a lemon rind that turns a bit pithy as it goes.

Mouth is med to lighter bod, nice popping carb.

Overall very nice. Funk is on the light side overal but still nice, good lemony citrus and rind characters, nice malts and yeast additions, pretty tasty overall.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Huge white head. Hazy pale body. Thick collar.

Smell - A little bretty. Sweet pale malts. Very yeasty. Some stone fruit.

Taste - Brettiness is more potent. Yeastiness too. Almost tangy. Lemony and some apricot.

Mouthfeel - High carbonation. Moderate earthiness to balance a hefty malt body.

Overall - Enjoying this. Great fruity and bretty flavors.

750 ml from ProperPinter. Thanks, Dan.

Served into a 6oz wine glass. /TØØØØØØØØRRRSSSTT //shakes fists at heavens.

Beautiful pour. Strawburn pour with billowing light, bright white head. Pleasant fizzy dissipation and good tight carb bubbles ring the glass throughout.

Smells of fresh straw, green apples, with mashed green grapes - it is faintly peppery.

Taste leaves little on the table, hitting the high notes of sour fruit and white pepper well. There is little funk - right in my wheelhouse really - and I enjoy that there is nearly no trace of alcohol in the traditional "boozy" sense. The faint alcohol burn at the death is magnified by the light, clean finish.

The best of the limited offerings I've had from Blue Lobster and possibly the best of the limited offerings I've had from Prairie.

750 ml cork and caged bottle poured into a Bruery tulip.

Thanks for another east coast Saison, Keith!

A - Effervescent and bright, this hazed pale yellow beer is topped by a fleeting and fizzy white head that leaves little lace behind.

S - Rustic and earthy, Little Lobster has a subtle barnyard Brett nose with easy-to-digest funk transitioning into lemon citrus and smooth spicy yeast.

T - Grainy pale and sweet pilsner malt provide a "beer"-like base that shows through the transparent wild yeast flavor. Notes of the rustic farmhouse yeast incorporate subtle spice into the mix, nicely melding with lemony citrus on the back end.

M - Little Lobster has an effervescent carbonation level that dances on the tongue as it passes by smoothly. Feeling somewhat flat mid sip, this saison finishes with a very nice dryness and relaxed tartness.

O - Little Lobster on the Prairie is a wonderful American-brewed saison that has plenty of Belgian-inspired yeast character but it's bigger malt base which boosts the alcohol also gives this subtly funky beer an actual "beer" flavor; grainy pale malt. Regardless, it's better than most of the available saisons from the states!

750 mL bottle courtesy of CooperEllis pours a fairly clear light gold color with a frothy white head. Average retention and lace.

Nose is sweatsock brett, tart bacteria and some sharp citrus aromas. Smells pretty good and pretty funky.

Taste is fairly sour and some serious funk pervades every sip. Rustic and tart, with some fruity notes...it is a bit sweeter than I would like, but it has alot going on. Not all the flavors seem to meld well, and there is a sweaty feet funkiness that I have unintentionally ended up with in some of my homebrews. I would like to see this be a little cleaner with more dryness and more sour.
