From the 750- ml. growler. Acquired at the brewery on November 2, 2013. Sampled on November 3, 2013.

The pour is very dark brown to just about black with some ruby red hues in the light. Full brown silky head that slowly dissolves and laces. Beautiful to look at.

A bit of a surprise on the nose. Instead of a chocolate, dark malt, or coffee note upfront I get pine resiny and earthy hops. Then I get the aforementioned chocolate and roasted dark malts.

The body is light to medium in the Guinness range. But very smooth.

Whereas the hops play themselves up on the nose the melted chocolate and dark malts kick in on the first couple of sips. Then the mild hop bitterness kicks in toward the end with a short lingering quality to it. Highly drinkable.

Thanks to Ricky for sharing.

Decent dark head, creamy, just about pitch black.

Nose nice choc, little toasty and roasty, creamy oats and light spicy hops, little earthy, mild caramel and black malt.

Taste choc and malty, oats, chewy nougat, caramel, toasty and little roast, light earthy spicy hops, little creamy, tasty and rich, fair bitter and roasty. Long fairly bitter finish, more choc and roasty, little hoppy.

Mouth is med to fuller bod, creamy, fairly thick, nice carb.

Overall pretty nice, drinkable stout, nice malt character, good hop presence, tasty.

750ml growler poured into a Bruery tulip.

A - Pours a near pitch black in the glass with faint hints of dark mahogany on the edges. A thin finger of dark khacki foam lingers for a couple of minutes and leaves thick lacing on the glass.

S - Good amount of coffee up front with dark chocolate and burnt malt. Some fruity hops kicked in for good measure.

T - Quite roasty in the flavor. Dark roasted malt, some charcoal, bakers chocolate. Firm bitterness from the hops and all of the roasty and heavily kilned flavors found here. Hops are a bit grassy but not very strong in the flavor profile.

M - Body is a lightish medium with a soft carbonation that yields a bit of a tingle on the tongue. A touch of acidity, more that a little burnt and acrid. Assertive in its bitterness seemingly from several sources and leaves a lingering roasty and burnt impression far past the swallow.

O - Another fine beer from this new brewery. Looking forward to returning this growler for a refill of another Blue Lobster offering. Had a couple of their beers now and have enjoyed both. Quite roasty and burnt in flavor and aroma...kinda reminds me of a lighter version of Founders Imperial Stout which is always a favorite.

On tap at Cask and Vine,
Arrives at my bar stool a bit on the cold side, so I took my time with this one. Solid black pour with a decent sized off white head that persists for a bit. Aromas of roasted coffee, dark bitter chocolate, and earthy citrusy hops dominate the aroma. Light pitted fruits and a hint of vanilla round out the nose. The flavor follows the aroma. Highly hopped roasty chocolate with bits of dark pitted fruits drizzled about. Medium body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a lightly creamy mouthfeel. Nice brew, I really enjoyed this.

Presentation: On tap at the 401 Tavern. Served into a chilled pint glass and enjoyed with lunch.

Appearance: Dark brown in color with a very slight medium brown head.

Aroma: Nice combination of roasted malt and surprisingly assertive hop notes. Definitely an American style stout from the hop presence. Some light pine, some earthy tobacco, and roasted coffee.

Taste: Roasted coffee beans, some chocolate and caramel countered with some bitter hops. The hops are somewhere between a light pine resin and earthy, bitter tobacco. The combination works well though and balances out the sweetness of malt notes pretty well.

Mouthfeel: Definitely a bit on the lighter side for the style, almost similar to a black IPA.

Overall, a nice offering from the Blue Lobster. Definitely want to try more from them, but this was a nice first taste. A nice, slightly hoppy stout with plenty of flavor and good balance. Would certainly drink this again.

750 mL growler poured into a cervoise, 24 hours after growler fill. Aggressive pour produced a good-sized head, and lacing remained through total consumption. On the nose are roasted malts, coffee, tobacco, and a little chocolate. Taste is a good balance of bitter and smooth, with notes of coffee and chocolate. Medium bodied with a little stickiness in the aftertaste. Overall this is a solid stout, true to the style, and goes down smooth. I liked their Gold Claw Pale Ale better, but this is a well-made beer and worth a try.
