Does not taste like a barrel aged coffee stout. Wrong beer buddy.

Tastes like bourbon with a splash of brown ale.
Dark brown with chestnut highlights. Chunks of drippy lace all around the glass. Thin ring of foam, webby skim across the surface.

Aroma is woody and full of bourbony vanilla, maple and tobacco traces.
Taste has a fair amount of dark fruit, the first sip is rough though, almost like a sip of bourbon. Tobacco and maple flavors follow suit. Light to medium bodied, a little chewy. Spirit is present, though tapers off after the initial harshness. Overall it's good though it could be smoother. (611 characters)

This was a surprise home run (pun intended) for Begyle.

A: Not quite pitch black like a stout, but almost there.

S: Tons of bourbon oak

M: Medium

T: Awesome

This is the first BA beer I've had from this brewery, maybe its their first BA beer theyve released. Well done, I'm looking forward to more like this from Begyle. (326 characters)

A nice dark brown pour out of the bottle. Almost a 1" light khaki head. Aroma is pleasant - the smell of a spent barrel. Taste is a little on the sweet side. Some caramel. Too thin. This BA offering is best served chilled. In fairness this the first barrel aged 'brown ale' I've ever had, but I expected more complexity. (327 characters)

Appears dark brown, nearly black body. Darker than a typical brown ale. Half finger tan head, no retention. Smells primarily of whiskey, oak, a bit of toasted malt, nuttiness. The whiskey is stronger here than everything else. Bothers me a bit, but it isn't always a bad thing. Flavour is primarily oak, smoky sweetness from the bourbon, a mild amount of toasted malt, slight nuttiness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, lower carbonation, a bit slick, runs a bit hot on the backend. Overall, it's an interesting concept that seems to do alright but just doesn't do it for me. (570 characters)

Bottle from the brewery. Served in a New Belgium tulip.

A - A hardish pour yields a thin tan head that settles to some wisps, a collar, and thin fingers of lacing. Dark brown body.

S - Lots of bourbon and spicy oak in the aroma; brown ale is largely peripheral, imparting light notes of roasted nuts and semisweet chocolate. While it's spirit-forward it isn't particularly boozy or rough; still, it's a bit one-note.

T - The flavor is a bit more balanced, with the base strong brown ale contributing more to the profile. A hefty dose of chocolate, hazelnut, and vanilla from the oak dominate the palate, with only faint bourbon flavor.

M - Creamy, soft, medium-full body. Low carbonation, and minimal alcohol warmth. I think this could actually use a tiny bit more spritz, but it's not so heavy that it gets syrupy.

D - Quite drinkable for the ABV. I would have guessed this was a 6-7% brown ale rather than the listed 9%. I managed to power through most of the bomber, giving a bit to my roommates (to mixed reviews). I think the base beer might be a tad undersized for the barrel-aging, but the end result is still pretty enjoyable stuff. (1,145 characters)

Very smooth barrel aged beer. At 9%, easy to drink with good flavor. Imperial pajamas is better, though this is more "sessionable". (131 characters)
