Bomber bottle. Batch #39. Purchased at brewery on 1/24/2014.

A: pleasant amber. Head dissipates quickly.

S: citrus with alcohol undertones.

T: nice hops with a moderate sweetness.

M: medium body.

O: reasonably unique double IPA. Definitely worthy of a try. Looking forward to future begyle entries.

Batch #39. From the side of the bottle: "Quagmire is our biggest beer to date, brewed to commemorate the opening of our retail store. This American Double IPA comes in at 9.7% ABV and has been dry hopped twice with Galaxy and Mosaic hops."

A: thin film on the pour. color is orangish/ deep gold.

S: very sweet. ripe citrus. freshly peeled tangerine.

T: I've always heard people reference some DIPA/IIPAs as "sugar bombs" but never had one myself. That's pretty much the only way I can describe this beer. The great Mosaic and Galaxy (my personal favorite) hops are quickly overtaken by the sweetness and it leaves an extremely sugary aftertaste.

M: Pleasant mouthfeel, not too thin.

O: Good aroma. Had high hopes for this Galaxy and Mosaic dry-hopped DIPA from a newer local brewery. Unfortunately it's just too sugary/sweet and there's no way I'd be able to drink a full pour of this.

Batch #56

Poured into a can glass, Quagmire is a brightly saturated golden orange color, with an ample head of foam. A crown of lace and patches of skim dot the surface.

Pungent aroma, slightly catty and big time citrusy, passionfruit and sticky buds.

Creamy texture, full bodied but fairly light going down, residual leafy green bitterness. Grapefruit peel and dandelion greens, white grapes with bitter seeds. Very well balanced for a near 10% abv, not overly sweet at all. This beer is giving me a renewed hope for Begyle, this is one of their best.

22oz Bottle (dated 1/15/13 and consumed 1/20/13)

A: Pours a really light amber with some minor cloudiness. The head lingers and leaves nice lacing.

S: The citrus and sweetness of tropical fruits. Not too floral. A slight juniper/pine, but not overbearing. A slight maltiness that hides behind everything else.

T: A lot grapefruit , but without the bitter up front. As it settles the bitterness of the hops sets in and begin to get a carmel/toffee sweetness with some breadiness. For a high ABV beer, it is very deceptive. Very clean on the wash. No alcohol burn.

M: High viscosity, and sticky sweet.

O: Easily one of the top DIPAs I've had. It meets all the criteria you find in the top rated imperials. Lots of hops that are balanced with a good helping of malt. Goes down smooth, and leaves you wanting more.
