The Field House is a sports bar inside and behind the Hard Rock Cafe on Market Street. Their actual address is 1150 Filbert Street as their proper entrance is there, just across the street from the Reading Terminal Market.

As is the case with most bars and restaurants these days, they've realized that their customers demand a better selection of beers, and they've increased their offerings well beyond the usual American standards and imports. They have an extensive draft list, and quite a few interesting bottle and can selections as well. Most of their tap selection is local.

Here are a few highlights:
Victory Schwarz Pils (draft $6)
Round Guys Buh-nana Hammock Saison (draft $6)
Weyerbacher Insanity Ale Barleywine (draft $6)
Yards Love Stout via Nitro-pour (draft $6)
Manayunk Altercation Altbier (draft $6)
Brooklyn Blast! IPA (draft $6)
Schneider Aventinus (16.9 oz bottle $10)
Broederlijke Saison (750 ml bottle $25)
Goose Island Sofie (650 ml bottle $22)
Old Forge Blonde Ale (16 oz can $5)
Sixpoint Bengali, Resin, or Crisp (16 oz cans, $6 each)

As for food it's elevated "pub grub"...
Soft Pretzel $7
Cheesesteak Dumplings $10
Cobb Salad $14
Crab & Pork Scrapple $10
Fried Oyster Po'Boy $13
Fish Tacos $12
Margherita Pizza $12

The place has an interesting beer history. It started as a Red Bell brewpub but they never got it off the ground. They handed it off to Dock Street, which then became Independence.

If you're into sports bars but also like good beer, this is the place for you. Or if you've gto time to kill before your train home. Or if you're visiting town and staying near here it wouldn't hurt to stop by, although there are a lot of other great spots nearby as well. For a lot of different occasions, it's worth trying.

We stopped in here for a beer and a bite to eat and really enjoyed ourselves. Not the best tap list we encountered, but good enough. Walked from right across the street after check in at our hotel. We were looking to try some of the local beers and were not disappointed. They had some good beer cocktails too. We ordered a bite to eat, and the roast pork sandwich was really good. This was a nice alternative to eating at the Reading Terminal Market which was way too crowded. Service was friendly, and mostly prompt.

The space was nice, dark woods, booths, tables and lots of tv's for sports watching. Nice big bar. We would visit here again for the varied tap list, the beer cocktails, and the roast pork sandwich (which was better than the famous one across the street).
