Massive! Roasted espresso, dried fig, licorice, and incredibly deep rich malt flavor. "Do you know what those things can do? Suck the paint off your house and give your family a permanent orange afro."

16oz can dated 4/24/19.

Pours opaque black with a thin brown head. Minimal retention or lacing. Brownie batter, espresso, and black licorice in the nose. Full bodied with a creamy, velvety mouthfeel. Rich chocolate with dark roast coffee and fudge on the palate. Finishes fairly dry with lingering chocolate, coffee, and roast.

16 ounce can, canned on 4/24/2019. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like roasted malt, coffee, candi sugar, chocolate syrup and a bit of licorice. For the most part I think the taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there's also the addition of some dark breadiness and burnt/charred malt flavors noticeable too. There's also a lingering bitter/roasty finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's a bit creamy and coating with a good amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good overall brew, glad I bought this one. $4.49 for a single.

16oz can dated 4/24/19 poured into a snifter
A: Pitch black with a 1/2 finger brown head
S: Coffee, cocoa, licorice
T: Lots of coffee. Some dark malts and cocoa. Quite bitter
M: Full-bodied, bitter
O: A decent RIS, would be better if a couple more flavors would show over the bitterness

My first Hoof Hearted brew---waited a long time for this elusive little brew....but....

Pours a deep rich blackish brown with cola highlights and a fantastic head of light brown
foam that settles to a thick ring and layer in the snifter showing excellent lacing as poured
from the tall boy can. Nose of coffee...tons of coffee oddly like the cans of the cold coffee
from them I purchased without looking appropriately at the label that noted that there was
no alcohol in it. A small trace of chocolate resides in the mix as well, but it is overcome by
the heft of the coffee. Flavors follow the nose....it's coffee and char and a touch of bakers
chocolate with a hint of cream with warmth and a lingering malt bitterness that is so
reminiscent of the canned coffee I bought, and to be honest----HATED. A bit better with
alcohol and a touch more from the malts, but still the nagging bludgeon of coffee to the
Nth degree. Warmth does produce some other flavors but it is still beaten to death by the
coffee....and by the way...heavy coffee should be drank by the pot which I do every day, this
is a touch overkill though and I like my brew bitter and black. Decent mouth feel; medium
full body, medium light carbonation, and a bitter char and coffee finish.

Dig coffee? This is decent, but the chase was better than the catch as Mr. Kilmister said
in a favorite song.

Decent idea, but lacks balance and a far cry from a Russian Imperial Stout.

Brief Review:

O: Shout out to BeerEconomicus for including this in a recent trade. My first exposure to Hoof Hearted, and I'm excited! Huge roast up front, tons of coffee. Doesn't explicitly state coffee in the label, but it's here. For an RIS, it's on the smaller side at 9.5%, which is nice. It's not overly bitter or hoppy. Very nicely done from Hoof Hearted.

Recommendation: I know it's not their most well-known beer, but this is a pretty solid representation of an RIS if you're looking for one that's not gonna be too huge in flavor or alcohol.

1 PINT can
Served in a snifter

This beer pours black in color and is topped with an inch of mocha head that leaves very little lacing.

It has a nice coffee and roasted malt aroma.

The taste starts out with some roasted malt which gives way to coffee flavor and has a bitter coffee finish.

Full mouthfeel

This is a pretty good stout from a brewery known more for their hazy IPA's.

One of the first offerings I've tried from HH. Not bad, but does not have the thick mouthfeel I'm looking for. Has a respectable coffee note, but also fails to hit the great bitterness the style can so often have. Not bad, but not great.

Pours out a totally pitch black with a mocha head.

Aroma is very roasty, hint of chocolate, dark fruit and coffee roasty notes.

Taste follows the same with a big roasty malt note, dark chocolate, dried dark fruits and a roasted coffee bean finish. Decently dry too.

Fuller side of medium bodied, slightly creamy mouthfeel, hidden alcohol.

Decent beer, but it's nothing special and there are many better examples of the style out there. Needs a thicker mouthfeel as well.
