The head on this 22-oz bomber rascal is brownish and very persistent, almost like some sort of creamy styrofoam. Pour it gently or you'll find it hard to get room for liquid in your glass. This head tastes and smells like good bitter hops. Color is way browner than the "P" in IPA would call "Pale." It matches the 19 on my SRM but I like the taste enough so I wouldn't complain. Can't call this over-carbonated, though, just the hops making for a very long-lasting dense foam. In the mouth, it feels oily, but the oil has the hop bitterness I love, so I'd get it again the next time I'm in Hampden, if only to support their hops industry. Wonder where they get their malt? I assume there's some in here, making a slight brown-sugary sweetness, but the hops are what it's all about.

Awful...I was In unfamiliar territory perusing the local packy selection when a helpful clerk suggested Scantic IPA as it was the best beer in the store and to make it a dream come true... was made locally in town. SOLD. Dont listen to people who try yo help you because you are taking to long in their store and making them nervous. Lesson learned. I drink bud at my softball games, i couldn't finish this. nuff said.

I think the previous reviewer got a bad bottle. There's nothing really "piss like" about this beer. But he has every right to give a bad review if his was bad.

IPA's are tough to do well. This one is good though, and I like that they use local hops. The appearance of this IPA is amazing, it has this butter colored foam that makes you want to drink it.

It tastes like an IPA, but it changes a lot in the glass. The first sip is bitter and hoppy. There's a lot of yeast in this one, and once you do the swirl and pour, that completely changes the taste profile. It's much more balanced towards the end of the glass.

I would buy this IPA again, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it or anything. The IPA is maybe the toughest beer style to make really well. The competition is fierce too. Anyone can throw way too many hops into the mix, but it's rare that someone is able to balance the strong hops with malt and yeast to make something that's memorable. While this beer isn't memorable, it's nice, and I love supporting brewers who use local ingredients.

Their Hampton Pale Ale is really very good, that's the one I would buy again and again.

This is my first written review I believe...and as it turns out, I have reserved the honor for what would end up being one of the worst beers I have ever tasted.

Man, was this beer terrible. I picked up a bomber of it at The Beer Shop in East Longmeadow, MA. I had never heard of this brewery, but saw that it was a local IPA that uses local hops and decided to give it a whirl.

Appearance - Meh, nothing out of the ordinary.

Smell - Nothing much here except a little hint of urine.

Taste - The urine is far more pronounced here. I mean...obviously I have never tasted urine, but this beer tastes like what I imagine urine would taste like. Like, really, really bad. I don't know what kind of hops they used but they are unpleasant in both aroma and taste. Yucky.

Mouthfeel - Not really sure, I was so shocked by how bad it tasted that I didn't notice the mouthfeel.

Overall - Overall, I poured almost this entire bomber down the drain. Come on guys...how could anyone think this stuff tasted good enough to sell? I would genuinely reach for a Chelada (Budweiser with clamato) before trying this again.
