So we even review this beer? I recently homebrewed a cream ale. I'm not a fan of the style, but many family members like American macrobrewed swill, so I thought I would homebrew them something they might enjoy for the holidays. Let's face it, your average Busch Light drinker isn't going to be drinking 3 or 4 pints of my homebrewed Michigan maple porter or apricot hefeweizen.

So I purchased one Genesee Cream Ale to compare an American cream ale with my homebrewed version. Why Genesee and not some microbrewed cream ale you ask? Well Genesee is the World Beer cup champion according to the image on their can (sarcasm)... it was the only cream ale my local beer store had in stock.

In all fairness I did not use corn or rice in my homebrew as I imagine Genesee probably does. I did however pasteurize a mason jar full of a buddies local honey and threw that into the fermenter. So I have fully disclosed some obvious ingredient differences.

They look almost identical, mine is maybe a point darker on the SRM scale. Genesee did kick my butt on head though (I better check my CO2 level in my corny keg). My cream ale smells malty like a beer should, Genesee had that corn smell known in the macrobrewed styles.

Taste, I don't love either one. Genesee if very clean though. I need some chips or pretzels just to get through the beer. Mine is more earthy, maybe because of the honey or a little residual grain.

mouthfeel, I assume this style is suppose to have a water like texture and both mine and Genesee do. Much more carbonation in the Genesee, which I assume is right since the won the World Beer Cup ;)

Drinkability - where can I pour it out at?

A quality weekend beer used for general partying or getting a little weird. Its for everyone but definitely worth trying.

Comes in a 30 pack | drinkable | good-looking can | outstanding backyard beer | great paired with Cornhole and grilled salmon | the overall experience is greater than the sum of its constituent parts

First review of a beer! What can I say? I don't know much about reviewing but I know I like this beer. Not very ale like; tastes more like a lager or like a red label with a hint of ale.

Goes down easy now; I used to not like it but its grown on me. Tastes creamy. That's all I got. Good beer.

At one time I loved this beer.
It was super cheap and I thought it had a little more going for it than your
typical American lager.

Well, it is still cheap. 99 cents for a 24 ounce can.
When I drink it now, I sometimes get a metallic taste and some funky off flavors.

Looks pretty good, A little darker than your average beer. Fizzy white head that lasts longer than one might expect.
It has a grainy smell and a beery taste.

It is a working class beer that will go well with some pretzels when watching the game.

Overall, it is an OK beer.
The cheap price offsets the off flavors to a degree.

I'm not one to look near the malt liquor but a friend had me try this and I was sold immediately.
This is an underrated beer. Don't overlook it just because you can buy it in a 24 pack!

It pours thick with a substantial head. Or sips perfectly out of the can.
The smell is mostly malt with a hint of rye. The carbonation is heavy and almost forces you to take it easy. It finished with light malt and almost no bitter. A very surprisingly good beer.

This is the perfect beer for hotdogs or a casual drink at picnics. It's excellent for having a good beer without looking like a snob. If anyone asks what it taste like you tell them beer!

And for the price it really can't be beat!
