Clear and amber / slighty orange in appearance, bubbles rise from the bottom in perfectly straight columns up to a two finger creamy head pocked with big craters of bubbles. Looks like a carrot cake with off-white icing on top. I love carrot cake, so this scores high on the apperance scale for me.

Smells pretty malty. A spice cake or snickerdoodle cookie aroma predominates, while a subtle hop note gently stings the nose. The smell is very nice, but a little weak. I have to really pull in alot of air to get a good whiff. IMO the greatest smelling beers are the ones you can smell as soon as you pop the top, but given that this is a lighter bodied lager, I won't hold that against it.

Dry and bitter at first sip, lots of wet sweetness pulls through at the end. That's cool! Sorta backwards from the way most beers start with the sweet and end with the bitter. But, the aftertaste is a bit stale.

This one is s smooth sipper that has something unique about it. It sort of reminds me of Killian's Irish Red, just a whole hell of alot more tasty. The one downfall IMO is that it has that skunky moldy thing goin on that is typical of lower-end American lagers. A minor flaw, and like I said...it's expected with the style.

The bottle says "perfectly balanced" right on the front, and I must say that I don't disagree. This is a damn fine lager (though a tad too watery for me) and one that I could easily session with. Also, this would be very good for trying to entice someone away from BMC without scaring them off.

Big white to off white head slowly settles down above a bright clear reddish amber colored beer.

Light caramel malts aroma is about all I was able to get off this amber.

Light caramel grain malts taste, without much of anything else showing up.

Slightly dry aftertaste with a very slight bittering effect with this medium bodied beer.

Pretty easy drinking beer, but you should be a fan of the malts, and not the hoppy styles of beers to enjoy this drink.

This poured out with a slightly dark copper color and a fizzy cream colored head on top. The smell of the beer had the aroma of lager yeast and some sweet caramel on the nose. The taste of the beer reminded me of a Yuengling Lager but not quite as good. The mouthfeel of the beer was a bit light for a dark lager like this one, it should have had a little more body to it. Overall this beer wasn't all that impressive.

Enjoyed September 3 at Savannah Craft Brew Fest '11.
A: Pale brown more than anything, not amber. No head, thin lace.

S: Malty and sweet with slight toasted malts and a little nutty.

T&M: Similar to smell maybe more subtle, nice malty medium body that finishes smooth.

O: Decent beer to have some malty flavor but drink a few under the hot sun. My sampling was the last of the bottle wondering what a freshie would be like.

JW Dundee's American Amber Lager is a clear and sparkling, well, amber lager. The head is thin and white and leaves nice lacing on the glass. The appearance is really the best part of this beer, so look well. The aroma is sweet and malty, maybe caramel, with a hint of grassy hops. It's pretty light bodied and watery. It's prickly, with a gritty finish. It tastes pretty sweet, again, like caramel. There is a hint of bitterness at the finish and the aftertaste is clean. It almost seems as if it wasn't completely fermented, but I've certainly had worse.

Bought a mixed 12 pack of Dundee's ($8.99/12).

Your run of the mill amber lager here. Pours a nice red color and has some caramel malt taste, but nothing really stands out. Nothing offensive about, but also nothing spectacular about it. I would drink it again if handed to me but wouldn't seek it out.

This is not a bad beer at all. BUT it isn't great either. It pours amber with a big fizzy white head that quickly falls into the glass. No real lace to speak of. The head reduces to nothing. Smells of amber malts and typical malt fruitiness. Nothing overwhelming or too impressive. Taste has the same impact on me. Malt and a little bit of hops. Mouthfeel is a little thin but it is drinkable. This beer is good for the money. I got a mixed 12 pack for 9.69. For that price these beers are worth it. I would say this amber has a minute edge over Yuengling.

This is not an abomination by any means, but make no mistake about it - it is not a good lager by any measure. While it hits the required noted for an amber lager in terms of flavor and appearance, it is raw, young tasting and entirely lacking in subtlety.

It pours amber with a thin head and lots of carbonation. It smells grainy and slightly sour. The flavor is grainy and sour and unpleasant. The mouthfeel is mercifully thin and leaves little trace of the flavor on the finish.

2/18/2005. For some reason I didn't have high expectations for this but found it to be decent enough. Amber colored, thick off-white head and lots of lacing. Quite a bit of malts, some caramel, and light balancing hops. A woody note in the finish and aftertaste. Drinkable.

Poured from a 12-ounce bottle into a Long Trail pint glass.

A: Poured a clear, copper-amber color with a bubbly head of froth which fizzled to a thin, beige lace. It's not a category to score on, but this beer sounded like a bowl of Rice Krispies in milk.

S: Smells of generic toasted grain and malt with a sweet aroma rising from it.

T: Taste is a little thin, but balanced. There's a rush of sweet caramel malts up front, followed by a synthetic hop bitterness that does little to add flavor to the aftertaste, but serves as a balance to the sweetness of the malts used here.

M: Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied, and pretty crisp for an amber lager.

D: Dinkable enough for an amber lager, but in a generic category, this one doesn't even hop off the page. I'd go after these in a mix-pack and end it there.

It's almost a shame this one is apparently retired, because it's probably the most balanced out of Dundee's collection of misfits. New packaging and label art ought to mean new beer recipes with a dedication to taste and quality, too.
