Another taste trip to the states, and I must admit the yanks know how to brew a robust craft beer with dominant gob smacking hops and fresh flavour, I'm sure this IPA will be no exception and I'm looking forward to trying it out, at $16 a six pack it's a bargain (yes; we do pay too much for alcohol in Australia).
Poured from a 355ml bottle into a nonic pint.
A: This brew presents with a cloudy almost coppery body and a foamy slight beige head which when left to sit for a moment dissipates down to a 5 millimetre lacing, alright.
S: More noticeable than the hops is a toasted biscuit base, it's almost like a biscuit (or 'cookie' for US readers) that's come straight out of the oven... much more biscuity than the ANZAC Biscuit beer I tried last year. There are some faint spicy hops on the nose. Interesting this aroma is more what you would expect from an English IPA.
T: Sweet caramel malt mid palate followed by a little sharp twang of some spicy bitter hops. There is an interesting mix here: a caramel and biscuit malt base with some light tasting hops that seem to somewhat trash the taste buds with bitterness at the end, I like bitter beers but I think the balance could be better with the hops and malt base having a touch more intensity.
M: Very standard IPA mouthfeel; mid to heavy body with light carbonation, quite decent here.
D: It's good... with a caveat: the bitterness is a bit of a session spoiler. Can I handle it? Sure, but your average beer drinkers might be turned off by this and overall I like to rate between the average of my tastes and the tastes of the general population, in this instance it is a thumbs up for me but a probable thumbs down for others.
Food match: Again this is where the bitterness makes it difficult to cater to, my choice would be strong and fresh flavours; Thai and Vietnamese are good picks.

... not impressed. I like IPA's, but this one let me down a little. It had the bare bones of what I wanted, nice hop flavor and in the nose as well. Standard carbonation and mouthfeel and appearance. It was oddly sweet, however. A little vanilla bread like and metallic. Not impressed with Dundee.
