Honestly, this is a beer for the dollar-deficient working-class man who simply needs to forget the day of back-breaking work he just endured. This beer doesn't have many pleasant characteristics, other than the fact that it's cheap. A 30-rack is about $20, depending on where you are, and if you're willing to overlook what it lacks in quality, you will be satisfied with how drunk you get. Then, when you wake up in the morning, the satisfaction will quickly dissipate and in its place: agony. (494 characters)

.99 cent 24 oz. can. pretty rough. been a while since i've had this poor of quality of beer. first sip was hard, gets a little easier to handle the more you consume. ice beers were never my thing, but me thinks this one is not so good. (236 characters)

Yuck. This is the worst beer I've had yet. Maybe I got a particularly bad can but this would have been my first drainpour if I wasn't broke at the time and hate to waste beer. But it was so metallic and astringent, not worth choking down at all. (246 characters)

Invited to dinner with friends and all they had in the fridge was Genny Ice. I’m game…

Dark straw color. Sure the residual corn sugars are present but this is not a terrible beer. To start, it is much more substantial in body than most AALs. The flavor profile is not bad.

Finally, the abv has been kicked up a notch but there is not real harsh or nasty alcohol burn like some AALs have when they reach higher abv levels.

Bonus: It's union made. (457 characters)

Genesee Ice Beer brewed by Genesee Brewing Co. / Dundee Brewing Co. This brew has an ABV of 5.5. The brew pours out a dark amber color with a small white head. Genesee Ice is darker than most Ice brews on the market. The smell is strong with grains and corn. Genesee Ice is a lot smoother than the original Genesee Beer. There is just something more to it to make it smoother. This brew goes real smooth with no harsh aftertaste. For an ice Beer this real good no hard alcohol taste or after taste for that matter. You can taste the grains and corn but nothing bad. Mouthfeel is nice clean . Overall I'm giving Genesee Ice a 4.75 out of 5 This is one Ice Beer that I can enjoy. For the price this is a good go to brew. Genesee Ice is a brew that I would buy again. (764 characters)

I really like Genesee Brewing Co. but this beer really doesn't cut it for me. I was hoping to find another great beer from Genesee but I wont be buying this again because of the taste. It's a mild flavor but what is there isn't very appealing. It's not horrible but it's not good.

Edit: I gave it another try and I'm making the rating go down. Smells and tastes like alcohol, beer, chemicals, and it burns my throat. (417 characters)

Clean gold with three fingers of white head. Retention is average for the style and good amount of clumpy lace.
Smell is lightly corny with a good amount of grains and a minor amount of grassy hops.
Taste is similar with no bad flavors just not much going on either. Bolder flavors than most macro lagers. Lightly sweet.
Mouthfeel is medium and lightly wet finish. Carbonation is just enough,
Overall one of the best from this brewery prefer it to their regular beer. (467 characters)

When you pay .99 for a 24 ounce can you really can't expect too much. This stuff isn't even worthy of a full A-S-T-M-O review but here we go...

A - Pours out a big head that is gone instantly. It looks "dead" in the glass but I doubt much of this is drank from a glass.

S/T - The smell and taste are adjunct city - heavy corn/grainy flavor and smell with even a hint of wine-like flavors.

M- Very thin mouth feel.

O - Overall this is not a particularly good entry in the "Ice" category and there are far better choices in this 5.5 - 5.9 class. I am a big fan of the Genesee Brewing Company, but this stuff just doesn't make the cut with me. (647 characters)

24oz can poured into a snifter. Canned on June 20th.

A: Pours a light amber gold with a decent white head that is somewhat quick to dissipate. Leaves some lacing on the sides.

S: Sort of a harsh macro lager aroma. Corn sweetness dominates.

T: More malt forward than the regular Genny. As anticipated from the aroma this is a fairly sweet beer for having such little flavor.

M: Light to medium body. A bit sticky but not too bad. Fairly easy drinking as long as its cold.

Overall it fits in with your typical Ice beer. A more malty and boozy version of their base. Think I might rather drink a normal Genny. (615 characters)

purchased a 24 oz can for .99 at Wegmans on 4/25/13.

poured from a can into a mug, served at fridge temp.

medium amber with a 2 finger white head that leaves almost no lacing.

aroma: faint hoppiness, not much else.

mouthfeel: thin

taste: virtually no flavor, as bland as any beer I have had.

notes: I have grown to become a homer for Genny and genuinely like regular Genny, Light and Cream Ale but this is as forgettable and boring as there is. Won't buy this one again. (476 characters)

24 fl oz can, with no apparent freshness date present. First time I have ever seen this beer in my area, although it's probably been around. I thought it might be related to the Labatt Max Ice, but I guess not. Would have rather tried this in a bottle, but oh well. Been trying to tick off as many adjunct lagers and malt liquors as possible as of late. Low expectations for this one, considering. But perhaps I will be surprised.

Poured into a Firestone Walker pint glass.

A - Pours about a finger of quickly dissipating white carbonated head, audibly sizzling away on top of a clear gold colored body. Slightly darker than typical swill American adjunct lager fare like Miller Lite and Bud Light. Second pour yields about two fingers of fluffy sizzling eggshell white head that recedes quickly.

S - Corn adjuncts and corn husk. Some grain and some roasted malt. Doesn't really smell like anything, to be honest.

T - Light in body, fair level of carbonation considering what it is. Clean, crisp, and smooth. Somewhat malty with a bit of corn adjuncts thrown in. Definitely exceeds my expectations, and comes off as somewhat of a tame beer in comparison with the Steel Reserve 211 High Gravity that I just drank. Not a flavorful or complex beer by any means, but drinkable and inoffensive.

M - Smooth, crisp, wet, and clean feeling. Moderate carbonation, and moderate bodied feel. A little carbonated, but not over-bearing. Mostly just a corn kernel aftertaste.

Overall, definitely not breaking any new ground with this. Another one of the same, simple, boring, generic alcohol delivery vehicles. Corn adjuncts and carbonation. Minus the subtle differences between these types of sub-par swill beverages, it seems that if you've had one, you've had 'em all. Some are however, more foul and putrid than the others. Genesee Ice Beer could probably be classified as one of the more inoffensive American adjunct lagers, but there are way better beers out there. I guess you can't expect much more from a 99 cents tall boy can, and I have definitely had worse beers for more money.

Daggon this is one good cheap beer.
Drink it from the can always, sometime on special dinners or in certain company pour into a glass.
Smells like a regular American beer, a bit more hops.
Taste is exceptionally disproportional to the price, genesee is delicious, price is Cheap with a capital C, 30 pack is 14$ here in KY.
Mouthfeel makes me think of a lighter alcohol pct. but it is certainly not at 5.9%.
Overall I am appreciative to pass on the knowledge that this is a great beer to keep stocked out in your garage refrigerator for anyone who wants a better than light beer. (579 characters)

A - Typical see-through yellow with a massive frothy white head. Small lacing.

S - Corn, malt, rice, aluminum

T - Sprite, rice, slight grain

M - Heavy carbonation with a light to medium body.

O - Overall, It's just another adjunct lager. No frills. (252 characters)

Drank from the 24oz can.

Smell is somewhat sweet with corn and grain mostly and then a tinge of sweetness and some cooked cabbage.

This tastes like college. Somewhat sweet and grainy with some alcohol in the middle. Goes down with a touch of bitterness and crackery malt. Finishes with a touch of beer pong dirt and funnel foam in my mind.

For the price there are more effective "get you drunk" beers but this has a bit better taste than others. Not great in any aspect but not super bad. Very average. (505 characters)

Poured from can into pint glass

Appearance – Pours a nice golden color with a big white head. The head has decent retention lasting for about 5 min. It eventually fades to leave a decent level of lacing.

Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a corn and caramel smell. Overall it is on the sweeter side.

Taste – The taste begins with some corn sweetness and a bready taste. As it moves on the sweetness fades a bit toward the middle. While the sweet fades, it is only temporary and in the end the corn sweetness returns to leave a sweet bready and corn flavor on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium side in terms of creaminess and thickness with a carbonation level that is rather average. Good for the style, as it makes it very easy to drink as it flows through the mouth.

Overall – While it is mostly of sweeter corn and some notes of bread and not super flavorful, it is by no way offensive and is very easy to drink. For 24 oz at only $1.29 it’s not too shabby and makes for a good tailgating brew. (1,040 characters)

This is hands down better than any mass-produced American beer on the budget range. It could be I'm just happy to have found something other than natural ice or 14 dollar 12 packs of Budweiser here in Nashville, being its only gas stations that sell beer here and liquor stores are not allowed to. Anyways 6.50 for a 12 pack and being Nashville I had to buy 6 24 ounce cans, wasn't to bad, and having 5.5. ALC is strong enough that are neighbors in Canada wouldn't laugh at us. (477 characters)

24 ounce can. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a clear dark gold color with about a half inch off-white head. There's a small amount of lacing. Not much to the aroma, it just smells like sweet/grainy malt. Taste is the same as the aroma, it's all sweet/grainy malt. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's smooth and easy enough to drink with moderate carbonation. There's even a slight slickness to the mouthfeel. This isn't too bad at all, there aren't any offensive flavors or aromas. Actually, I was expecting a lot worse so this brew was a nice surprise. For $1.09 a can you could certainly do a lot worse. For the style of beer it is, I'd buy this again if I was in the mood for it. (691 characters)

For an ice beer, this has got to be my primary favorite overall in taste. Natural Ice is my favorite ice beer mostly for the abv and price though this is #1 for taste. The taste is an easy drink that gives you almost a nutty or woody taste that honeslty goes well with the beer so well, it makes the drink easy and delicious to drink, much better than the big guys such as budweiser or coors, it's delicious. I promise. (419 characters)

.79 cents for a tallboy in Cedar Lake Indiana...

I dont know if they have quality control issues where this is manufactured at but the can version of this is atrocious and skunky when compared to the 40oz version...and ive tried it 3 different times back to back over a year....same every time.

can = disgusting
40oz = not bad...would rank 3+...an above average ice beer (372 characters)

Genesee Ice has a medium-to-thick, off-white head, a clear, bubbly, deep golden appearance, and a lot of lacing left behind. The aroma is of faint, semi-sweet grain husks, and the flavor is of sweet malt and grain (corn, most likely), and biscuit, with a shade of hop bitterness. The mouthfeel is light to medium, and Genesee Ice finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, mostly dry, and very drinkable. This beer had a lot of body, and is remarkably smooth. I think it’s very good.

1383rd Review on BA
Can to LA Stem
24oz

2012
Purchased for $1.79 at Lees Discount Liquor, LV

App- Orange as orange can be. A bit like oil in the glass with a certain thickness and weight behind it. A nice two finger long lasting head.

Smell- Corn, malt, wheat, malt-o-meal. Not much here. Wasnt bad, but wasnt good.

Taste- It's one of the better AAL. Wasnt as corny or malty. Little bit of sweetness with a fuller citrus zest note.

Mouth- A nice thicker body with a nice mellow medium body.

Drink- It's an AAL. Ill leave it at that. One of the better ones though. (569 characters)

Poured into a straight sided tumbler, quickly receding white head over a darker for the usual beers of this type, a nice deepish gold. Crystal clear when held to the light. Sweet malty/light adjunct aromas but nothing off-putting for sure. The taste is clean with little adjunct qualities, a bit of hop snap to it and finshes clean with no corn aftertaste...at $1.09/24 oz can it's my go-to lawnmower or in this case broke as a joke brew. Far better than the Bud/Miller/Coors 24 oz'ers. (486 characters)

24oz can served in a standard pint glass.

pours a crystal clear dull yellow/gold tone with a short lived, foamy finger of off-white head; no real lacing to speak of.

aroma is defined by that crisp, grainy adjunct lager character... corn, a bit of sweet maltiness. taste follows through more or less exactly as one would expect: fairly clean, corny-grainy flavor. nothing to write home about, nor does it try to be; not replusive, just a middle of the road, light drinking, american adjunct lawnmower lager. (reviewing with style in mind.)

light bodied, medium to high carbonation. goes down easy enough if one was interested in drinking a bunch, just not sure why that would ever be the case.

Genesee Ice is surprisingly dark with a deep golden body that leans towards amber. It appears to be almost 7 SRM! Could it be old beer? When held to the light it's crystal clear... and the flavor shows no signs of oxidation... so I checked the production date: April 10th, just over a month old. Interesting. The rocky head is also slightly dark, being more of an off-white than the bright white that I'd expected. The head holds well, and leaves some nice lacing behind. That's fairly unusual.

The aroma, however, is exactly as expected. There are no real hops present, nor is there any particularly distinct malt. Instead, it's the common "generic" beer aroma found in so many mass-produced beers - some might call it "cereal-like". A bit of yeasty sulphur rounds that out.

The flavor turns things around again. There's a nice bit of grainy malt to it, and some spicy and floral hops come through as well. Yes, it's clear that there's a fair amount of adjunct involved as it has a touch of "corn" to it, but the little bit of character that it does have is a welcome change. It tends towards the sweet side, of course, but it remains balanced and finishes mostly dry with a touch of mineral and a smear of light alcohol.

For an inexpensive beer (I paid $11.95 for 30 / 12 oz cans @ Bell's Beverage in Philadelphia, PA) it's not bad. All of the young kids in my area are quite loyal to their Yuengling Lager, but I imagine they'd be hard pressed to discern that from this. If I was heading out on an all-day fishing charter, or maybe a canoe trip where you could flip and lose all your beer I'd definitely consider this. (1,624 characters)
