12 oz bottle into a snifter...color is pretty on-point for the style, a rich very dark brown with a decent head. Smell isn't too heavy or distinctive...taste is ok...I've had a lot of better porters and drank a really good one just before this bottle. Mouthfeel is fine...just an average standard porter, not bad but not amazing. Decent value as part of 'craftpack' (those seem to be all the rage these days).

"Roasted and Robust" per label and I have to say they got it right.Poured a very dark brown with just a slight tint of ruby a mocha colored creamy very well retained head atop, pretty roasted aromas like that of French roast coffee and real earthy tones.Bold flavors abound unsweetned chocolate intertwined with heavily roasted malt abig earthy raw finish really stays in tune with the boldness of this brew.Wow color me suprised JWD Porter went way above my expectations this is one beer they out did themselves doing I really like this porter, its truth in advertizing.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: The pour produces a one inch thick foamy head. It has a light tan color and very good retention. It fades very slowly and makes some cool, slick lacing as it makes its way down the glass. The body has a very dark brown color that is nearly opaque with dark, deep crimson highlights.

Smell: The aroma is rather light and has some light roasted malt notes with some leafy hops and a hint of sweet caramel.

Taste/Mouth feel: Its flavor has solid base of sweet roasted malt with dark caramel and light coffee notes. Hop flavor is modestly balanced and has a nice leafy tone with a very slight metallic touch creeping in as well. The finish has a quick flash of roasted flavor before quickly fading off the tongue. The palate has a solid medium body and a slick smooth texture with well balanced carbonation.

Notes: Overall this was a very solid Porter with good drinkability. To me this is one of the better offerings from the Dundee craft beer line of the High Falls Brewing Co.

The beer was a dark brown/black with a good, lightly tan head. The head dissipated a little.

The nose was toasted, dark chocolate and coffee. It smelled slightly sweet from the malts.

When drinking it, there was a sweet start to it followed by a coffee finish with a subtle and balanced bitterness. I was impressed by how smooth this porter was.

Thanks to jjfoodie for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a brown-red color with a tan head. The aroma is heavy on the toffee. The flavor is a mix of toffee, dirt, earthy hops as well as some chocolate and smoke. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. One of the better Dundee beers, but still nothing too special.

Poured cold from the bottle.

This beer poured brown, but much lighter than traditional porters. The smell is nothing like a traditional porter and is much more sweet and malty. The taste is along those same lines... malty, almost no roasted-ness and not like a porter should be. The roasted flavour is barely noticeable on the aftertaste.

Would I buy it again> Absolutely not.

pours a dark dark brown, almost black, looks like cola, with a biege fizzy head that fades to a thin layer almost instantly. pretty good head retention but hardly a lace.

the aroma is pretty non exsistent. you have faint hints of roasted malt, faint whiffs of alcohol, maybe some sweet maltiness. you definatly have to smell deep to get the aroma.

all the dundee beers in the variety craft ive been drinking seem to have that same malty twang. there some slightly roasted malts, nothing crazy. a touch sweet, then finishs nice and bitter with some lingering cocoa flavors. a touch of a raison flavor in there.

sparkly bitey carbonation really ruin this for me. light to medium body. overall just fizzy.

drinkability isnt too bad, but id turn this down for almost any other craft beer from a different brewery. i wouldnt seek it out, and definatly wouldnt suggest it to anyone. dundee definately did not impress, i will be avoiding it indefinatly

2nd review; 2nd chance.

Poured into becker pint glass; deep brown/garnet with a thick fluffy tan head that sticks around nicely. Head is all around much better this time; maybe last time I got an old bottle. Smell is very weak, some roasted malt and a hint of bitter chocolate. Taste is equally weak; there's no character to it. The mouthfeel is good and full, but there's no flavor. The roasted taste is an afterthought, barely present in the aftertaste; the main taste is a fizzy, slightly sweet generic malt flavor. This is a drinkable beer, and I'm sure it's infinitely better than anything their alter-ego Genessee offers, but it's a poor porter.

Appears with a dark ruby brown body nearly black with a large tan moccha head, which dwindles slowly leaving behind scattered chunks of lacing. Aroma has dark chocolate in cocoa powder form nicely rounded with a creamy latte' effect, balanced herbal hop bouqet. Flavor has more dark chocolate and mild coffee and light fruity ale notes from the dark roasted malt character with a soothing herbal expressive hop bite in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium to fuller bodied with a semi creamy texture and it's evenly carbonated coming off very smooth on my palate. Drinkability is one great solid porter I'm very impressed with the quality of their craft lineup...I'm a fan of High Falls including their Amarillo hopped pale ale.

12 oz bottle in a pint glass.

Pours a rich very dark brown, nearly black, but with nice mahogany highlights. There is a decent tan head, but this retreats rapidly, leaving little more than a ring.

Good mouthfeel, with well-chosen carbonation. Medium body.

Aroma: mild: sweet dark malt; noticeably hoppy; slight hints of smoke and dark fruits.

Taste: light for style, but otherwise without serious flaws. Has the hoppy tinge expected of an American Porter.

O - An average quality porter, leaning towards the light side in flavor. Good value as part of Dundee 'craftpack'.

(Served in an American pint glass)

A- This beer has a jet black body with a light beige head that is pitted but last and last. There is strong carbonation of tiny bubbles that can be seen at the edge of the glass.

S- The smell of coffee roasted malt with a field corn note has some nice richness to it.

T- The taste of black bitter roasted malt has a strong sour flavor with a cream flavor that is faint. There is a nougat note that increases as the beer warms. There is alight tartness that lingers after each sip.

M- This beer has a medium-full mouthfeel with a creamy texture.

D- Most porters air on the side of watered down stouts but this porter is big and robust. I guess the bottle is telling the truth. The malt tastes are nice and roasted but the sour and nougat flavors are to strong.

Pours a dark mahogany brown with garnet highlights on the side. A thin pathetic head makes an appearance but fades fast, that's typical with High Falls beers I've noticed.

Smell is very pleasing. It has notes of buttery chocolate, coffee and dark roasted malts. Mild but there is enough there to make me want to drink some.

An excellent example of how a porter should taste. This one isn't as bold as other great porters but it has all the great basic flavors. There is a lot of dark toasted malt flavors combined with a semi sweet chocolate and coffee finish. The beer is silky smooth and quite flavorful.

A smoothly carbonated beverage that has a slightly chalky/ charcoal finish that I could do with out. Other then that this is a surprisingly great beer. I bought this as part of a sampler 12 pack. Well worth fighting through the other poor offerings to get your hands on this one.

Thick black body with a thinning brownish head that settles to an uneven quarter inch; looks porterish... bright, peaty notes; rather smoother than rich... oily, thin and effervescent--like a cola perhaps-- not offensive, though... medium-bodied, smoky and creamy; by mid glass, smooth and understated... like the style, a workmanlike presentation and taste--as part of the sampler, a nice shift from the lagers and lighter ales...

Dundee- Porter

A- Deep dark brownish black with a big foamy head. Good lacing on the glass.
S- Nice roasted coffe beans and semi-sweet chocolate.
T- Sweet chocolate with a good creamy coffee flavor. Light flavors on the tongue.
M- Sweet and creamy with a nice dry finish. Slight hop presence in the end.

Overall- The best of the variety 12 pack. Easy to drink and enough flavor to make it sessionable.

12 oz bottle. Pours with a dark mahogany, almost blackish brown color. Big, foamy tan-colored head stays around for a while.

Good, malty aroma, caramel notes. Richness is evident in the aroma. Small amount of hops in the aroma nicely balances out the sweetness of the malt.

Robust roasted malt flavor, balanced by sweet medium body. Roasty but not harsh. Very nice chocolatey note in the mid-palate. Excellent, full-bodied interpretation of the Robust Porter style.

Slight alcohol warming but not excessive. Good carbonation is retained even after sitting a while.

No obvious flaws in this brew. I'd rank it right up there between Great Divide St. Bridget's Porter (below this one) and Otter Creek Stovepipe Porter (above this one).

For $4.89-$4.99/6-pack, it is hard to beat. I hope High Falls adds this to their permanent line-up.

AP: Pours out a pretty thick brown color with a thin, bubbly brown-ish head that becomes not much more than a scattered cap rather quickly.

Nose: Heady molasses and brown sugar malt scent with chocolate, almonds, roasted nuts and a tangy hop with a mild heat.

flavor: roasty, malted nuts with brown sugar, tangy and mildy bitter hop that pops out after and is mellowed by a burnt wheat effect.

Feel: full body look, medium feel with a crisp bite and smooth thickness on it's way down.

DA: This is my favorite of the dundee's line, they make a nice, clean brew.

Another from my Dundee sampler..Which was only supposed to last 'till Christmas!? Maybe I'm not drinking enough beer.

Pours near opaque deeeep crimson with a low tan head which quickly receded to a ring leaving spotty lace.

I honestly couldn't pull anything from this particular beer aromawise..Could just be the weather and my poor sniffer. Thus my default average rating since I can neither praise nor fault what I can't smell.

Taste was easier thankfully consisting of Burnt malt, slight coffee and a copper finish which diminished as the beer warmed.

Fairly light mouthfeel with low carbonation.

A good Porter to session since it's light on the ABV and not as filling as my beloved Polish Baltics. Cheers!
