Great Porter! Very balanced! What you would expect in appearance and smell not quite as prominent as I would like but the taste is exceptional. It taste of sweet malts and toffee like. Mouthfeel outstanding its smooth and creamy and this makes for an overall great Beer. Fellow Advocates please note that you can find most of the beers I have rated at Kroger with there pick 6 it is a great way to try different types of craft brews!

I can generally tell from first taste if I really like a beer and I really like this beer. Not a husky Porter but not light either. The chocolaty taste is there but not overbearing. It's drinkability encourages one to open a second and maybe a third and that works for me!

Another of the recent drop-offs, courtesy of my local trader, Tone77!
From the bottle: "Be big."; "Roasted and robust"; "Porter is said to have been the brew of choice for London laborers and transportation workers. Like many workingmen, they are big and burly. Unlike most workingmen, they are rich and deep. Face it, labor just ain't what it used to be. Now it gives us eyestrain, carpal tunnel, and expanding pant sizes. Dundee Porter is a throwback to another time when work made your bones tired and people didn't care a hoot about carbs. Be big. Even for a little while."
Oooh, I loves me a porter! My porter pour produced two fingers of thick deep-tan head with good retention. Color was a deep, dark brown with ruby highlights and NE-quality clarity. Nose had a dark chocolate roastiness that made me think of my late father - he was the first person that I knew of that really liked dark chocolate. Mouthfeel was full and creamy and the taste was like dark chocolate ice cream. I closed my eyes at one point and could imagine it as such. Man, was this good! Finish was semi-sweet and deeply chocolaty, but that was OK by this self-avowed hophead. Even I need to step back from the IPA onslaught and remind myself that there are some good malty beers available these days. I can really recommend it as a dessert beer, but to make it a steady diet might be too much for the likes of me. Very nice and worth seeking out.

Dundee Porter....Rochester NY.
Appearance-opaque brown/black. Nice creamy tan head bubbles rise up and disappear, a nice layer of carbonation remains. Decent.
Smell-nutty malt, alcohol, small notes of toffee and sugar. Hops and alcohol fairly hidden.
Taste/Mouthfeel-medium bodied, malt and chocolate notes, super smooth and creamy, finishes on a strong note, layer of malt.
Drinkability-smooth, heavier alcohol is well hidden, well balanced.
Overall-well done, the best beer in my Dundee sampler, all flavor notes work well, reminescent of Stegmaier in PA, I really enjoyed this.

A - nice dark, nearly opaque brown with a big, foamy tan head
S - really nice toasty coffee smell --very bold
T - Wow. Really impressive, especially for a Dundee brew. Extremely nice toasty coffee flavor. Reminds me a lot of my favorite Porter, St. Peter's.
M - very smooth and creamy. A creamier head would be a big benefit here. Definitely not too fizzy. Goes down just right.
D - buttery and creamy almost to the point of being heavy.

I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It came in a JW Dundee sampler box. It was only $7 for the 12 pack at Giant Markets in Binghamton, NY. My expectations were a little low. I have pounded many Honey Browns in the past because it is decent brew when you are on a budget. But I wouldn't give it rave reviews. This porter, however, is the best of both worlds.
It pours with medium head and medium carbonation. The head disappears in a few minutes.
It has a great mouthfeel and is very drinkable. The slightly elevated alcohol content prevents this from being a session beer. But you can share a 6 pack and be OK.
Which leads me to my only complaint. The only place I can find this beer is in the sampler pack. I would love to be able to buy it by the case.

poured from bottle into chilled mug.
a- very very dark black. almost completly black even when held up tp light. great big creamy 3finger head, only receded slightly staying thick and creamy. leaves great lacing
s- a slight hint of malt, a hint of floral hops, and some burnt bitter coco. generaly weak smell.
t- a little on the malty side, not very harsh or bitter at all. some chocolate, roasty malts.
m- nice smooth creamy feel. not to heavy but not watery. perfect amount of carbonation to quench a thirst.
d- fairly easy drinkin but still holds a great body and perfectly balanced amount of flavor. this is a porter that i would grab for a second one. and yes i would buy it again.

Very dark in color, almost black with ruby brown color showing around the edges. Pours with a nice two inches of light tan head than lingers for a good amount of time and leaves generous lacing on the glass.
Smell of ripe fruits, molasses, chocolate, and sweet malt. Very nice balance.
Taste is full and satisfying but not overwhelming. A lot of the character in the smell is present in the taste and is sweet and chocolatey but not overpowering. Dark chocolate bitterness remains in the finish but is very enjoyable. Although there is a lot of flavor this one is a very easy drinker.

Got this one in a 12 pack for $9.99 in NW Connecticut. Poured a very dark hue, with very little light shining through, even when placed right in front of an incandescent light. Very prominent head which dissipated over time; very good and persistent lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt and some chocolate overtones. Taste is similar to aroma, with roasted malt dominating, but no cloying sweetness. The mouthfeel was my favorite attribute; full and smooth, reminding me of the benchmark porter IMO, Fuller's London Porter. The drinkability is quite good; you do not feel the elevated ABV. Overall, this is one of the best American porters I have ever had, regardless of price. When you consider this 12 ouncer only cost $0.83, you can't beat it. I'm really wowed. The best Dundee's so far. Prosit!!

Appearance: Pours a nice dark brown, nice thick tan head that lasts leaves a lot of lacing.
Smell: Slightly faint but notes of chocolate and coffee
Taste: Strong chocolate taste, slightly bitter with a little coffee flavor. Warm and toasty. Leaves a long lasting bitter black coffee aftertaste, but not unpleasant. Great carbonation all the way to the end. The flavor gets much more intense as the beer warms up. I would recommend drinking this one slightly chilled as it really comes out more the warmer it is. Very drinkable.
Got this one in a variety pack. I've had Dundee beers before and they impressed me as being pretty good cost. This one does not disappoint. A great drinkable Porter.

My favorite by far of the JW Dundee line of beers.
Pours a nearly opaque deep brown with nice tan head, but reduces rather quickly. Spotty lacing.
Rich delicious smell of roasted malt and hints of coffee.
Extremely well balanced malt sweetness and hop bitterness. Pleasant unsweetened chocolate aftertase.
Mouthfeel is just alright. Medium bodied, but a little too heavily carbonated.
Overall a good example of the style in my opinion. I really enjoy this beer. A great value for the money.

Bought as part of Dundee's Ales & Lagers Seasonal Pack from Southtown Beverage on 4/26/13. Case price was $ 17.99.
poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Sam Smith's Pint Glass. Served at Ambient Temp.
appearance: clear medium brown, liked Brewed black tea supports a 2 finger shortbread colored head. nice lacing.
aroma: nice toasted malt with English style earthy hops.
mouthfeel: smooth, maybe a little thin for the style.
taste: lovely, caramel sweetness with a touch of cocoa. some hazelnuts.
notes: Wow! wasn't expecting a beer this good from Dundee but it is an excellent beer. Maybe a little light for the style in color, mouthfeel and body but it is delicious beer that can hold it's own and will become a regular of mine.

12oz brown bottle as part of a multi-pack. Pours a dark brown/black nearly opaque body with ruby-red highlights and a half inch of light tan head. Smells toasty with strong caramel notes and a hint of hops. Tastes toasty with toffee and caramel with slight grassy hops toward the finish. Medium-bodied with ample carbonation. A darn good porter for sure, much better than expected, and certainly the best beer from this brewer I've had so far.

A - This one is black with a few red-brown highlights and a nice one finger beige head. The head lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a bubbly collar and some smoke on the surface of the beer. A swirl leaves spotty wet lace on the glass, and builds up the foamy finger of head again.
S - Sweet Cocoa Puffs cereal and milk. Dark bittersweet chocolate and some roasted coffee beans too. Hot cocoa powder and steamed milk. A hint of grassy hop aromas too.
T - Lots of hops here! Tons of cocoa powder...and Cocoa Puffs cereal flavors, along with some bitter chocolate and dark coffee too. This is really damn good.
M - Medium bodied, well-built, creamy, and moderately carbonated with a dry hoppy finish with lots of coffee aftertaste.
D - This is an outstanding session beer. It's not crazy or overwhelming in complexity, but it sure can shake what it's got. This is, along with the IPA, a stunning beer from what I previously considered a mediocre brewer. Well done Dundee.

Dark black color that shows deep scarlet when held to light. Full tannish head, long lasting. Lacing continues down glass as I drink. Smells of sweeter malts and apples, and a bit of nut. Taste starts of a bit nutty and sweet finishes very malty burnt coffee. Has a sharp edge to it. Enjoyable. Not a lot of carbonation, feels good on mouth, leaves a slight bitter aftertaste. malts taste a bit over roasted for my liking, but is well balanced with the sweet start. A very drinkable Porter, not only because of the lower cost to purchase this brew, compared to some English imports and domestic crafts, but because I believe it does a good job of balancing it's ingredients.

"Roasted and Robust" per label and I have to say they got it right.Poured a very dark brown with just a slight tint of ruby a mocha colored creamy very well retained head atop, pretty roasted aromas like that of French roast coffee and real earthy tones.Bold flavors abound unsweetned chocolate intertwined with heavily roasted malt abig earthy raw finish really stays in tune with the boldness of this brew.Wow color me suprised JWD Porter went way above my expectations this is one beer they out did themselves doing I really like this porter, its truth in advertizing.

Out of a bottle this beer was a near opaque liquid that had a one finger head of tan foam that settled down into a clingy cap. Good retention and some broken curtains of lacing. The aroma was malty, roasted and semi-sweet caramel with lots of chocolate and hints of ripe fruit. The flavors were an interesting and enjoyable blend of coffee, roasted malt, chocolate and some nougat with an underlying fruitiness. The finish was long and coffee-like in bitterness. The body was medium-full but not as rich as it could be. Still, I found this beer smooth, pleasant to drink and affordable. A great session choice.
