I picked up a 12 pack just to try it (it was cheap, I like cheap beer).
I had no expectations, no knowledge of the beer prior to purchase.
What a nice surprise! Very tasty brew. Goes down smooth. Light, clean finish. I'll buy again.
Nice job Genny! (248 characters)

Sweet can. I love the old school can as well as the $6.45 price tag for a 12 pack. This brew poured wonderful reddish amber, with an off white head. The head is frothy and leaves good lacing on the glass. The aroma is of light malts and straw, adjusted with corn or rice. Also there is just a hint of caramel. The taste is sweet and malty, bready and pretzel like. Hops are almost a nonfactor. The palate is medium bodied creamy and smooth. Finish is short and sweet. Overall not outstanding but a good beer at a great price. (525 characters)

12oz can poured into a DFH signature glass

A: Deep rusty red with a generous head. Pretty good lacing as the head fades.

S: Adjuncts and medium roasted malts. Slightly more appealing than your average BMC.

T: Ahh..this is where the surprise come in. It’s not bursting with flavor, but the adjuncts are pretty well hidden which makes for a reasonably smooth drinking experience. Some malt is present. You do get a bit of corn/rice in the aftertaste that knocks you back to reality however.

M: Much smoother than your average adjunct lager and way better than the nose indicates. High degree of drinkability if you don’t mind a bit of corn/rice in your beer.

O: Fear the goat! A local treasure that is an early sign of spring. Being that it is still January in western NY, they may have jumped the gun on this one. But bless them for trying. (848 characters)

12oz can at about fridge temp poured into a standard pint glass.

pours out a clear deep brown color with a one finger of off white head that settled to a thin layer and towards the end of the glass was almost completly gone. just a bit of spotty lace at first.

not much aroma to this one. slightly sweet light caramel malt, herbal like, a bit fruity, and some mineral like lager funk.

sweet caramel, a bit fruity, herbal tea, and some grains, a little metallic, and a little mineral like lager funk.

light bodied with somewhat of a watery feel. a bit astringent.

very easy to drink, exspecially for $10 a 12 pack. the only time i would buy this again would be for something cheap to play drinking games with or go to a party. (731 characters)

(Served in a dimple mug)

A- This beer pours a pretty clear deep caramel body that is clear with a strong carbonation of big bubbles to support a thick tan head that soon fades to a thin ring.

S- The clean aroma has some Noble hop hints in the finish.

T- The soft melanoidin notes have some toffee hints to it with a dry soft hop snap at the finish and a sulfur quality that grows as it opens up.

M- This beer has a light mouthfeel with a crisp fizz that lingers after each sip.

O- This beer has a clean light flavor but there are nice hints of bock beer. The big fizz and sulfur grow a bit to strong as the beer opens. (627 characters)

This really is a beauty off the pour, forming a big, fluffy off-white head that settles to a dense 2 fingers in height atop a clear coppery-light brown beer. I really, really want to give the appearance here a 4.5, but it just fades too quickly and the moderate lacing isn't quite enough to push it past good.
I get grains and caramel in the aroma off of a gentle malt. There's an interesting yeast presence(that I like) in here offering a sort of dusty, flowery sweetness. It's a touch light, taking some effort to get the full effect, but not bad otherwise. It's really a 3.5 but for the lack of hops aroma and resulting balance and the lightness of it.
The flavor follows suit, with a strong malt supporting gentle caramel sweetness, a slight nuttiness, plenty of toasted breads, and that interesting yeast. There's just a touch of hops for light balance. It's not complex or overtly flavorful, but nothing I'd shy away from and an easy sipper.
The mouthfeel here is nice, with a rich, full smoothness coming over a body on the lighter side of medium. Everything about it is smooth, starting with the first sip, all the way through into the finish, with a light carbonation and ample malts presence making it full and creamy in the mouth. Again, there could be a bit more body, but it's good.
This isn't the most balanced bock out there or the most flavorful, but it's not one to pass up either. (1,399 characters)

12oz can left in my fridge by one of my buddies who is always touting it...served in a standard pint glass

A - poured an inch of loose bubbly light tan colored foam...seems to be falling at a pretty quick pace. eventually settles to a thin film and slightly clingy lace ring. the beer is a light brown color, slight ruby tones.

S - light caramel malts, grains and stale biscuit. almost a complete lack of hops.

T - very sweet. dominating caramel and brown sugar with some cinnamon sprinkled in. finishes a bit crackery with just the smallest flash of hop bitterness before sweetness takes over. finishes slightly metallic.

M - a good bit of creaminess for the style...very stinging but not overdone carbonation. finishes sweet and sugary with some dryness.

D - well what can i say - not my cup of tea but this has a lot of character. awesome looking can, too. (864 characters)

Poured a 12 ounce can into a pint glass.

A - Poured a very clear copper color with a fluffy initial head that retreated to a thin lace for the entire beer.

S - Slightly fruity with some roasted grains.

T - Sweet cooked grains with some hops and fruitiness.

M - Tart and tangy with good carbonation and a sweet finish.

O - A decent bock beer that hits all the right marks. They only bring it out in January and it's worth stocking up a 12 pack or two if you like this style. (478 characters)

A - clear amber with a mountain of brownish, off white head that has great retention

S - heavy caramel, mild chocolate malt notes, heavy lager yeast

T - light flavor, caramel, very very faint chocolate, a bit grainy, mildly bitter finish, lager yeast in the finish

M - medium to full bodied, smooth, crisp, slightly overcarbonated

This is surprisingly good for Genny. I've been drinking Genny all my life coming from northern PA and this is the first one I've truly enjoyed. It has flavor and a high level of drinkability. It's definitely worth a try. (555 characters)

Pours a caramel brown, with large head, and pleasant malty maple aroma.
Some lacing, but not outstanding.
Sweet flavor up front - almost nutty with a slight citrus undercurrent.
Not an impressive finish, but a fine and easily-sessioned beer (and a great value). And the can design is retro-hip! (294 characters)

This was a bit of a let down, because I really enjoy Genesee Cream Ale.

I like the looks of this beer.

It has a , clear copper color. An off white head. Really looks nice in the glass.

The retro can is cool too.

The mouthfeel is a little watery.

It has a faint malty smell.
Malty flavor, that leaves a cardboard taste in the mouth.

Maybe Bock beers are just not for me. (384 characters)

Fun colorful can pour into pint glass...great goat artwork!

This is a fun, very drinkable and very affordable ($6.99 / 12 pk) spring bock, not too heavy like some darker bocks I have had lately.

Some bready malt aromas, little carmel buttery mouthfeel, carbonation pretty solid, nice foamy head in the glass...not much hop presense at all, but for a bock that is not usually the case, mostly a malt brew....

Overall a nice solid spring bock, very tasty; light and crisp, I will be getting several 12 pks to have for warmer weather...a good balanced beer, easy drinking! I like this one a lot. (595 characters)
